By Donna Gustavsen "Bones Among Leaves" is a collection of short stories filled with surprises, unexpected twists and turns. Somewhat macabre, most of the stories present a mix of heartfelt emotion and detachment, optimism and reprisal. The stories are haunting, but always interesting. Many begin with hopefulness, but are laced with an underlying layer of skepticism and a Poe-like tingle of anticipation that all is not what it appears to be. Characterization is strong and many of the descriptive passages are very creative. A strong first book by this author.

Emmrich I have crocheted since early childhood - a wonderful Swedish grandmother taught me to keep me entertained during allergy seasons. For many years this skill was my closely-guarded secret. Liberated women didn't ply the home crafts, so I wouldn't admit to crocheting if tortured.I've aged some since the NOW days, and I crochet to make my peace. This skill given by a thoughtful grandmother, and the ability to read patterns offered by my teacher/grandmother, has kept me entertained, challenged, calm and dextrous for many years. Now I freely admit to this skill, and am always on the lookout for a good pattern.I had found Mathieson's book in the Public Library, and found the classic patterns wonderful to adapt to today's threads and yarns. I had Amazon find me a used copy, and it is always a arm's length.If you want classic patterns, fundamental stitch and thread information, and good history of crochet, "Complete Books of Crochet" is still one of the best books around!

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A Really Complete Book for Beginners By A Customer I rated this book with 4 stars because it was my first teacher in crochet. The "Learn How" Steps for Basic Stitches clearly shows the reader the first basic things one needs to know about crochet: how to make a loop, what to do with the left and the right hand, how to make the chain stitch, slip stitch and single crochet... up to triple treble crochet. And there's an easy project to apply each stitch to give any beginner enough confidence on doing the stitch. The illustrations complement the easy-to-follow directions.There are enough projects on this book (from head bands, hats, bags, slippers... even the blouse/vest patterns are in vogue again... to doilies, table runners, floor rugs) to keep you inspired, filled with crocheted things, and busy your whole life. And yes! there's even a chapter on the afghan stitch or tunisian crochet, with the same clear instructions and drawings on how to execute the stitch, that I learned it easily even before I acquired my own afghan needle.(Of course there are interesting afghan projects, too.)There is also the chapter on gift ideas which include baby booties, a doll, toy dog, ball, basket. There's a chapter for "pineapple" patterns, one for filet and one for baby clothes. Though there are no charts (and the book I have only has black and white photos), I still felt that desire (which is probably common to crafters like me) to want to try the projects because of the clearly written instructions of the author. Once you try and see a finished project, you'll always feel that you can execute the next one you start. I might add though that one cannot find stitches like the reverse (single) crochet stitch or the fpdc (front post double crochet)in this book. I think these are late additions to the craft, considering that the original copyright of the book is 1946... and the one I have is a re-print in 1971. Also, this book does not have a stitch library. (If you want a stitch library, you might want to try finding Fran Westfall's Encyclopedia of Knitting and Crochet Stitches.) Overall, I really liked the way Ms. Mathieson wrote her how-to crochet instructions and patterns that when I chanced upon her "The Complete Book of Knitting" in a lonely shelf of my favorite bookstore, I didn't think twice about buying the book. I also learned how to knit (continental style) from this author... and I can't wait to write a review about her knitting book as well. I wish this book were easy to find again as I would like to recommend it to any beginner to crochet who does not have anyone to coach him/her.

I bought this copy so I could give my old copy to my grandaughter. This 1946 copy will be put away too. I have almost worn out the oldest copy by using it all the time. If you like the old vintage patterns, you will love this book. I do have a 1976 copy that I use now.

I am not currently practicing- but could definitely use with a massive uncluttering of my family home. I like the way the author explained minimalist living- saying that you don't have to fit into any preconceived perceptions. As a newbie I found this to be extremely reassuring, and I like the idea that it doesn't have to happen overnight, it can be a gradual thing.Another fact that I loved was that it costs nothing to start, and will actually save you money in the long run. I don't think my family will go full minimalist, but we could probably get rid of at least half our stuff without missing any of it!The book is put into easy to find/ read sections on each topic- which was great for going back and finding particular places within the book.I found the tip section with the 7 steps for success extremely helpful.I was actually surprised to find that it also included some suggestions for activities that you can do either single or with your family while still maintaining this lifestyle.This book has given me a lot to think about- great read!

About the Author Andrew Lang (March, 31, 1844 July 20, 1912) was a Scottish writer and literary critic who is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. Lang s academic interests extended beyond the literary and he was a noted contributor to the fields of anthropology, folklore, psychical research, history, and classic scholarship, as well as the inspiration for the University of St. Andrew s Andrew Lang Lectures. As things changed only one thing stayed constant, my favorite books are still Andrew Lang's Fairy books. The Yellow Fairy book is a collection of 48 fairy tales written the way they were supposed to be written. Each tale ranges in length anywhere from a couple of pages up to about 20. The tales are fairly easy reads, but they don't lose any of their appeal. The book also contains several wonderful illustrations.Some of the stories include: The Six Swans, Story of the Emperor's New Clothes, The Crow, The Cat and the Mouse in Partnership, The Three Brothers, The Magic Ring, How to Tell a True Princes, Thumbelina, and more.I would suggest reading this book, I love it!

A bright multicultural selection By Heidi Anne Heiner With tales such as The Blue Mountains, The Cat and the Mouse in Partnership, The Dragon and His Grandmother, Fairer-than-a-Fairy, The Flower Queen's Daughter, The Glass Axe, How To Tell a True Princess, and many others how can anyone not find this book fun to read? Once again, Lang edits a book full of fairy tales from many lands that will entertain children and adults. The black and white illustrations are also superb.

Morris What makes this particular volume of Lang's collection remarkable is its collection of quite unknown stories. While we all love "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Cinderella", there is nothing wrong with venturing for more complex stories, and that is what this volume provides.I have not researched these, but I am under the impression that many of these stories were actually "written". I'm not sure how everyone will take that threat to oral folklore, but good fantasy is good fantasy, and I enjoy reading a fairy tale-esque story with extra complexity that still holds the same aura.The illustrations are gorgeous, as usual, and display intricacies that fit the stories superbly.Perhaps a more wild collection, but for that I love it all the more.

By BG bookaholic I was really excited for the 5th and final book of the series to come out. It started out great and I was impressed with Avery's strength and endurance in the earlier books.minor spoiler:I feel the last book was rushed (obvious already in the rather short length of the book). There were several conflicts that were solved in 5 sentences and the relationship between Jared and Avery went from "she hates him" to "she loves him" overnight without any proper talking. He should have at least properly apologized for all his mistakes with maybe a little grovelling. Instead he just left her be to come to her senses... He invaded her mind/magic without her consent although she was already traumatized. Tell me how that is any different from what Abaddon did, even though Jared supposedly loves her. The show-down with Abaddon was also rushed, no real tension/drama there. It feels as if the author just wanted everything to end without putting too much effort.Overall, I would read it again, just to bring closure to a good series. The last book, though, was disappointing.

I love this series n sad that it has ended. S.L. Gavyn ended it the right way. But again I'm sad it's over. Maybe she might write about the other fallen brothers. Sorry no spoilers from me.

By sismarin The characters in this author's books have such depth and personality they will capture you into the story before the first chapter ends. Just like real people they have their faults, but are still likable.

Gardening techniques based on your physical challenges -- what a great idea for a book! In A Garden For You, you'll find good advice about raised-bed and vertical gardens that may be helpful to those who have some special physical needs. There is also an introduction to Sensory Gardens, the concept of which never occurred to me. I also enjoyed the summary of some health benefits from gardening.Thank you for opening my eyes to a lot of gardening concepts that I wouldn't have found without this book!

I assume if you're reading this you have already begun the journey of Micka that began in the first book 1/2986. And I assume you might be wondering if this next chapter of her life will be as intense and absorbing as the last book...the answer is yes, and more yes. To tell you about the storyline would be robbing you of the thrill of discovery that happens as you turn each page. However I can tell you issues that face Micka in the future, are all too familiar in today's world, more terrifying and intense but fundamentally to the same. This is a book that has you think and at the same time tear through the pages, eagerly awaiting the next twist and turn. I found it different and refreshing that such a fast paced book found the time to truly develop the characters to such a degree that that I was stressing over the situations they found themselves in. As I said, What can I tell you Ms. Wendeberg IS one mighty fine writer, and I think you will really enjoy the ride she offers with FOG.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Worthy Sequel! By Sabrina Fog is a worthy sequel to a gripping tale that features a unique protagonist. One of the things that I love about W. Wendeberg's books is that you just never know where she is going to take a story, so I read this sequel to 1/2986 with the question 'What will happen next?' in the back of my mind the entire time. And when I came to the end, that question stayed with me. I can't wait to find out what happens to Mika and Runner next!

In my opinion her characters are well defined and their response to some very challenging circumstances blow me away! I actually care about them and am rooting for their success so much I hold my breath reading her work. I always hate it when I finish the books. With other authors I am eagerly looking forward to finishing so I can go on to another book by another author. But not Wendeberg! If I don't have another of her works to follow up with any other author will suffer in comparison.I usually buy the ebook versions; in my experience they are full of publishing errors but Wendeberg's are pretty much error free; error free means a lot to me as a reader. I did find two errors in the seven works I have read so far. She will only get better with time. What imagination! The amount of research she must do for her period works is staggering. How do I describe the plot? Girl is abused; becomes a sniper and then. . . . she becomes fog?! That's right, but how is that possible? I didn't see that coming!!!

So wonderful to see a coloring book made from real little creatures and not licensed characters and ubiquitous princesses. A true winner for animal and pet loving children.

By neeners I originally ordered this coloring book for a 5 year old, but when i got it, I found myself wanting to order colored pencils and try it out myself! So that's what i did! My boyfriend and I find ourselves coloring away when we have free time. It really is a coloring book for all ages. Great layout of really cute and detailed scenes of "Rangi" exploring the world. You might think it is silly for adults to color, and honestly I did too, but i found that sometimes its nice to focus your mind on something simple like coloring. It really takes away stress when you spend a little time doing it!I would recommend it for older kids and adults....definitely getting more for gifts!!

I love that the kids can use their colored pencils and make it as little or as much detail as they want with color. The book tells a story with its' beautiful flowers and landscaping and Rangi is so full of personality! What a uniquely fun way to spend some time with my kids (because I love it too!) I agree with it being for all ages and find it strangely therapeutic.

About the Author Katrin and Yuri Shumakov - a stellar artist-duo, professional origami creators, who started their origami journey in France in 1989 and since then they unfold this art in a heretofore unseen way! They have created amazing paper world ORILAND with incredible fantasy Kingdoms that impress with rich detail of majestic castles, abundance of paper flora and busy life of little paper dwellers. Their newest kingdoms Toy-ronto and Albuquerque combine fantasy and reality together, presenting a whimsical artistic rendition of iconic sights of these cities. Another beautiful and elegant aspect of origami they brought to life is ORIBANA - a marriage of two Japanese arts: Origami and Ikebana. By combining these remarkable art-forms, in early 1990s Katrin and Yuri began to create paper flower arrangements in paper vases and thought up a distinctive name for it - Oribana. Since then they designed more than 50 charming oribana-compositions with a broad variety of origami flowers and vases. Being prolific origami authors they created more than a thousand of origami designs from simple forms and cute characters to complex dinosaurs' skeletons and architecture that all have a distinctive Oriland style. Psychologists by education, Katrin and Yuri have studied how origami helps children learn.
