About the Author

W. Keith Powell has a B.S. in Management, and is a third generation “carpenter’s kid” who spent 15 plus years working for the family construction business. He holds multiple state licenses for residential home building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trades. The author has taught all phases of residential home building at the community college level with an emphasis on modern building science and sustainable construction practices. He has designed, written, and taught contractor’s licensing courses for residential builders, electrical, and plumbing contractors. He is currently the AHR Program Chairman within the Construction Technologies Division of Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC. The author is a certified HERS green rater, LEED GA, and holds several other professional designations.

About the Author Jack London was an American author, journalist, and adventurer. London s early careers as sailor, fisherman, and prospector provided inspiration for his later writing, and it was only when he returned from the Klondike that London decided to focus on social activism and journalism. He soon became a popular magazine columnist and author, and a prolific commercial writer, penning over two dozen novels, and numerous short stories and poems. His most famous works include The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea-Wolf, and the short stories To Build a Fire, and An Oddyssey of the North. London died in 1916.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An excellent collection By Karl Janssen Of Jack London's many short story collections, Moon Face is one of the best I've read. The stories vary widely in style and subject, and, for the most part, you won't find the wilderness adventure stories for which London was famous (There is one, out of eight). London liked to experiment with diverse subject matter and literary techniques, often with mixed results. In this collection, originally published in 1906, he is successful on all counts. These eight stories are well-crafted, vividly descriptive, and suspenseful. A few of the stories explore the psychology of murder, and show the influence of Edgar Allen Poe, as does the closing novella "Planchette", which deals with the supernatural. "The Minions of Midas" is a tale of terrorism that's years ahead of its time. "The Shadow and the Flash" is pure science fiction, incredibly imaginative for its time and still exciting 100 years later. The only wilderness adventure story in this book, "All Gold Canyon", is one of London's absolute best. It contains some of his most beautiful descriptions of the natural environment, and a detailed nuts-and-bolts description of the process of gold prospecting. If you're familiar with London's work, you'll love this book. If you only know him from his sled dog stories, give this collection a try and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

You can never go wrong with Jack London's books! This one, just as the others I got earlier, is well made and easy to read. I like the active Table of Context that allows me to go straight to a story I want to read. I haven't noticed any mistakes or "bugs" so far. Will keep adding new books to my e-library. Thank you, Amazon, for coming up with the Kindle - what a great way to enjoy multiply books on one small, lightweight device!

Sometimes the author is a little too "in-depth," giving you more information than is needed.Once the reader wades through all the extras, she will uncover the necessary information needed to create some wonderful dried floral items.The author writes about growing flowers for drying, the drying process, creating dried flower arrangements and other crafts involving dried flowers.The next section involves pressing flowers and crafts to create with pressed flowers.The pot pourri section explains the difference between scented and unscented potpourri and gives examples of flowers needed for each. The author also delves into herbs. Crafts include sachets, herb pillows and seasonal potpourri.I found the book to be interesting. I like the way the author lists the supplies you will need for each project. All in all it was a great resource. You could tell the author loves flowers and wants to spread that joy to others.

By Allie O'Neal Taking place a few years after the original Witches of Cleopatra Hill trilogy, Christine Protector is a darker mystery that takes place in the territory of the powerful de la Paz witch clan.Caitlin McAllister has been keeping secrets from her entire clan since she was fifteen, but when a fun trip to Tuscon quickly turns into a nightmare, she realizes she has to use her gift as a seer to save her friends. Tapping into a power she’s been trying to avoid for years proves more difficult than expected, and it takes an alliance between the three Arizona clans to solve this deadly mystery, which is considerably darker than the previous books in the series. While off-screen deaths have happened before, Caitlin unwillingly becomes witness to mental and physical rape that, while not overly graphic, is still deserving of a trigger warning here.Of course, witches and warlocks practicing Sympathetic Magic is the key to every book in the series, and putting the romance in this paranormal romance is Alex Trujillo. Alex is the first male character introduced in series, and though he has appeared a few times, it’s usually in the shadow of his powerful grandmother. Whether you’ve had a little crush on this son of the de la Paz clan for a while now or are meeting him for the first time, he’s the Protector, and he is now my favorite of Christine Pope’s heroes.Balancing Caitlin’s dreamer personality, Alex is hardworking, caring, and naturally protective, as his gifts display. Protector: Best One Yet in Cleopatra Hill and Beyond By SweetAlyKat If you like a bit of magic and a delightful touch of romance, if you are already an avid follower of the witches of Cleopatra Hill, than plan soon on reading Protector, Christine Pope’s newest release. More than her previous stories, this one has a touch more dark magic, a bit reminiscent of Damon Wilcox, but to some extent more evil. The plot reminds us that there is always good verses evil even among witches and warlocks!With the story’s intermingling of the clans, it suggests, to us the reader, to recall just who did what with whom in previous books. Alex, a long ago candidate as Angela’s possible consort demonstrates his unique gift as Caitlin, a young McAllister developing seer, refining her once denied gift, race against the clock to save her friend from the grips of a treacherous spell. There is a cameo of Angela and Conner” handling the situation”, which was the absolute best part of the book.I read this book in less than two days, staying up (with the lights on) too late. But, it was worth it. This is by far the best of Pope’s Arizona witches and warlocks: 5*****

Forbidden Magic By Amazon Customer I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.WARNING: Sexual content, Mature Readers (17+)***SPOILER ALERT***Protector by Christine Pope is a paranormal thriller complete with action and romance--loved it!If you haven't read the other books in the "Witches of Cleopatra Hill" series, stop and pick them up. Although Protector reads like a standalone, it helps if you know the back story.I loved how Pope intertwined Angela, Connor and Adam in this installment. It's been a couple of years since Angela and Connor's marriage. Their powers as prima and primus have increased. Without them, this tale would have a very different outcome.I have to admit Protector had a creepy plot--young girls kidnapped and used for some demonic ritual. To make matters worse, the main character kept having visions of what happened to these girls with their captors. It made for an intriguing story that was hard to put down.If you've read the other books, you'll remember Alex Trujillo. Well, he's back and handsome as ever. He wasn't destined to be Angela's consort, but he does have a bond with the main character of this tale.Pope doesn't disappoint with Protector. There is yet another installment in this series due out in the fall. Will it come out in time for Samhain?

Intimate moments experienced by intimate characters, even larger stories that deal with strange occurring natural phenomena like "The Bend," offer subtle but powerful moments experienced by the characters. These stories are filled with Simple Pleasures in the way they twist and turn toward their climatic and often unexpected endings. Every story in this collection works in that wonderful space of the human psyche, where we are unsure of the world that often feels so strange as it surrounds us. And it is through Marshall's poking and prodding of those uncomfortable feelings, which we all share, that he is also able to offer hope or if nothing else another voice in the dark letting us know that we are not alone; it's a weird wide world we live in and that makes it kind of beautiful too.

The strange stories that populate this collection work like glitter camouflage, dazzing in plain sight so the emotional resonance may not show its profound effect until later--when, for example, you think back to the mysterious debris washing up on the bank of The Bend (http://queenmobs.com/2015/06/the-bend/), or of The Lover, and the way a heart can harden because of it's own misunderstanding of itself. Full of delightfully bewildering imagery, A.W. Marshall's collection takes the reader to places both strange and satisfying.

Marshall's first collection showcases a great new voice By 20 Something Alternately absurd, hilarious, and heart breaking, Marshall's first collection showcases a great new voice. These stories call to mind the small, close readings of human behavior and combine with that some of the more absurd, embarrassing, tragicomic moments we might want to forget on occasion. The one thing these stories are not, ever, is trite or offensive to the characters. It is clear from the inception the great care and respect Marshall feels for his characters, no matter how funny they are on the page.
