Maybe Some Good Ideas, But Poorly Communicated By Martin Evans Most people have had an instructor of one kind or another who quite obviously knows his subject, can do it well, but cannot communicate the techniques to his students. It's as if he's speaking to himself - he can picture what he wants to get across in his mind but it just doesn't come out in a way that others can utilize the information.That's the feeling that I got from this book. As an active do-it-yourselfer the abstract ideas seemed worthwhile, but I had absolutely no idea what the author was talking about much of the time. The materials list and directions for some projects were vague, in some cases incomplete, the author seemed to assume that the audience knew beforehand how to do some tasks and therefore failed to explain them.Unclear materials included "fat quarters", "large pipe clumps", "pocket hole screws" but no mention of needing a pocket hole jig to use them, and "small, medium, and large pieces of wood".There are no diagrams or photographs depicting what the projects should look like during or after construction. Just words. And for this sort of book, that doesn't seem to be enough to make it worthwhile. The old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" would seem to apply here.

Those who already have a dedication to DIY will love it. The instructions in this book are simple, but the ease with which one can accomplish each hack will vary – some hacks are definitely a lot easier to attempt than others, and many hacks may require special shopping excursions to obtain all items listed in each set of instructions - certainly not a problem for those who like shopping! And for those people like looking at pictures of the final product, you’ll be better off looking elsewhere – this book is definitely meant for those with an imagination.

For a beginner's point of view i don't think it's enough for me to learn knitting with the contents of the book, on the crochet part, since i already know how to do it, it already has the same things i've learned before. Maybe I'll try to read it again and try to get the hang of it.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Dusk Gate Series Is Incredible By T. Lykins This is part of The Dusk Gate series. I would advise you to read them in order before reading this book. I loved William's POV. In the past we only have Quinn's POV but now finally we get to see what William was thinking on this journey. How he grew to love Quinn and the little things she did to win him over. I absolutely love everything about this series and it take you to another world like no other. Every character is intriguing and the whole series keeps you entertain. This might be William's POV but unlike other stories which seem to be the same, we get to see more in depth of this world and story. Love that some other characters thoughts even get told. Look forward to see what will happen next. Love this incredible world and read this story in one sitting because I could not put it down.

A new twist to familiar story By Blessed Mama After reading Seeds of Discovery numerous times it was refreshing to read it with fresh eyes from William's POV. So many little things that happened with William's family and especially Nathaniel. After reading it, I ended up starting the entire series again. Nice to read books where cuss words and sex aren't needed to push the story and characters along. Eirentheos and Philotheum are entirely a different world but one anyone would wish truly existed after reading the Dusk Gate Chronicles

She almost ran me over with her car!""Isn't that what girls do when they have crushes on boys?" - Breeana Puttroff Crossed RosesTo say I loved this book would be an understatement. I have been anxiously awaiting this book's release this morning. But I didn't have to hold out that long. Breeana Puttroff was offering a few free copies for reviews, so I snagged one! (The squeals of joy upon receiving this might have scared my Husband a little.)For those of you who don't know what The Dusk Gate Chronicles are (educate yourself!), they are a collection of now seven books and a novella surrounding a girl named Quinn Robbins who becomes fascinated by an enigmatic boy from school after almost plowing him down with her car. Bent on discovering what is going on with him, she inadvertently follows him into another world. The series is fabulous, and this newest addition didn't disapoint. My only complaint is that it was too short! (Kidding, it was perfect).Crossed Roses is a retelling of the first Dusk Gate Chronicle book Seeds of Discovery that started as a project on the author's blog. The first two chapters can be found there. In Crossed Roses, we see the original story from mainly William's point of view with little tidbits from Nathaniel, Thomas, and Linnea as well. So if you loved the first book, you will definitely love this one. A few scenes are brushed over, like the Naming Ceremony where Quinn meets Alvin, but as a reader, you don't really mind because you have already seen that. This book offers behind the scene glances at the other characters, one of my favorites was Nathaniel's thoughts on Toliver's attack on Quinn. It is also awesome to see Williams feelings for Quinn developing even before she finds her way to Deusterros. The scene where he is eavesdropping on Zander's conversation with his friend about asking Quinn out.This book was fabulous. I wish it would have went a little deeper into was William making the wooden carving of Dusk for Annie. I would have loved to see what he was thinking while he was carving it. I'm pretty sure he gave it to her in the second book, so it makes sense that it wasn't added into Crossed Roses, but I noticed it was hinted at twice.Something else I might add.... After reading this book I would suggest rearranging the order of the books to look like this:Seeds of DiscoveryRoots of InsightThorns of DecisionBlooms of ConsequenceCrossed Roses* (I'd put it here instead of at the end)A Christmas RoseCanes of DivergenceLeaves of RevolutionAlso, for those of you who purchase the ebook, there is a section at the end where you can enter in your email to start receiving her newsletter with an exciting Dusk Gate Chronicles announcement. Goldman Mr. Moses' insights into the mind of a working dog, what is necessary to understand, shape and take full advantage of that mind and his good-natured sardonic wit make this book greater than the sum of its parts. In today's polarized animal world, it is important for real world stories of working dogs be more widely available. A largely urban and detached voting public has come to think of animals as creatures solely to be observed, certainly not used for work and never offended. If that view should prevail, 5000 years of intentional breeding designed to clarify and enhance natural aptitude would go out the window. Here is a light-hearted view into the world of a working farm dog, what it took to help her achieve her best and just how much that matters. Bravo to Mr. Moses for telling Stella's story in such a readable and clear way. She makes the case very clearly that purpose bred dogs are a human treasure we must steward carefully for the next millenia.

"Your Name is Stella", draws you in right from the start. The author allows the reader to be immersed in this journey with his quick wit and amusing anecdotes intertwined throughout the story, all the while providing a clear understanding of how a young working breed does her job. This entertaining and at times laugh out loud story is a must read for all who are bonded to their 4-legged friends, and even those who are not.

I have a Nook but after reading this soft cover book I am going to keep it in my bookcase and buy another one for my uncle. It is a story laced with warmth and humor that brightened my day and I don't have a dog. It was very well done.
