About the Author Ellen Feld is an IRA/Children's Choices winner (twice) who began writing about horses more than 20 years ago. At first she wrote for small, regional magazines, but within a few short years, her work began to appear regularly in large, national publications. In 2001, while waiting for her next assignment, Ms. Feld wrote a short story about a Morgan Horse. That tale became the first chapter of Blackjack: Dreaming of a Morgan Horse. The book went on to win a coveted Children s Choices award, an honor bestowed jointly by the International Reading Association and the Children s Book Council. To date, Ms. Feld has authored nine horse books, including seven in the Morgan Horse series. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband, two children, ten horses, and assorted other pets.

Maybe one was just laying around and I picked it up and enjoyed what I was reading. And Heather reminds me of my granddaughter so I particularly enjoy reading about her. Fact is, RIMFIRE is the best of the books I've read. It's just a good, old fashioned read with all the appropriate elements. The one thing that's missing is the romantic relationship between Nicholas and Heather. Will that come in a future book?????????????? Only the author knows.

When Nickolas becomes unable to show Rimfire, Heather shows him and injures him. Because of this Heather learns an important lesson about friendship and what happens when you do something that you shouldn't.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. ... to drop a line to remark how much I enjoyed it -- again By philnc I've almost finished reading this book through for the second time and just wanted to drop a line to remark how much I enjoyed it -- again.This second volume of two in T.J.'s "First Exoplanet" series picks up where the first left off. Once again mostly competent people are put in situations that test them, sometimes to the breaking point. In the end courage, intelligence and most of all, cooperation, save the day. For the most part the bad guys get their just deserts, and the good guys get the chance to make a difference -- even if it's not decisive.The tech continues to be believable, and the author has the discipline to refrain from resorting to all too familiar deus ex machina twists in resolving the plot. This is hard sci fi of the best kind, grounded in the plausible but still able to pull off some satisfying surprises (like the moment when our "silent service" makes its mark in an extraterrestrial sea -- a scene that cries out "miniseries" if any ever did).Anyway, I want to thank T.J. publicly for making the last couple of night watches for this humble IT worker (during which I had literally nothing to do but wait for someone to pull a virtual fire alarm if things went sideways) just a little more bearable.

This hot little military romance packs a wallop in a short span. Maddie's life is typical of a military wife, and anyone who has had a loved one serving overseas can relate to what she goes through. It's a spellbinding short story that pulls on all your emotions. The writing flows nicely and pulls you into her life and experiences. Jeff is a wonderful, supporting friend for her and a nice guy over all as well. I loved how their relationship developed and found it to be realistic given the circumstances that lead up to it. That's probably what I liked the most was how believable the story was. It's a wonderful military romance with a powerful personal journey, love, and lots of action.

It offers the scope of a workshop or a class with precise and comprehensive directions for many of the items needed in a garden as well as options and variations within the individual projects. With this book I will finally build a willow trellis to fit an odd space near my deck, and clear up my confusion regarding differences in cement and mortar for hypertufa as well as exterior mosaics. The book takes the reader through a year of seasons with wonderful and (for me) much needed organization, such as getting plant supports in place for your climbers while your seedlings are hardening off in easily constructed coldframes.All is offered in great detail for creating solidly structured projects that are in harmony with ecology and nature. There are over 200 pages of fabulous ideas for my garden, from potting, to mosaics, all the way to off-season projects. I cannot wait for my snow to melt so I can get gardening!

I already have three projects lined up that I can get started on even though there's still snow on the ground here in northwestern Connecticut. The project I'm most excited about is the willow switch fencing in page 156. The book is so beautifully shot, and the instructions for things I never would have thought to try are easy to follow and beautifully illustrated. Guagliumi's whole approach makes me want to up my game in the garden. She needs her own TV show!

First i thought it was the lack of time, but actually it was the lack of knowledge.This book teaches in a very easy way, how to grow your own herbs organically. I have also learned how to safe money by my own fresh food in the process. This is definitely something I am going to teach my friends too, so we can do it together. Cooking is one of my passions and I had always wanted my own herb garden to add fresh flavours to my meals. Aneka must deal with the kidnapping of Ella by a previously mythical enemy. This is a stronger book then the last and introduces a new human culture. It focuses on Ella more then previous books and has a solid ending.

RLS at his Best By Rocky Macy Somewhere over the past few years I acquired a copy of a wonderful collection of stories by the famed author Robert Louis Stevenson. The volume, New Arabian Nights, is a mere one-hundred-and-ten years old, and in very good condition. While I can't remember when or where I bought it (undoubtedly in a flea market somewhere), it resurfaced recently as I was unboxing the books that I had stored in Arizona while I was overseas - and I put it in a stack next to my bed.The collection began with a bit of a sarcastic "note" which indicated that the author had been victimized by a plagiarist. He said:"I must prefix a word of thanks to the gentleman who condescended to borrow the gist of one of my stories, and even to honor it with the addition of his signature. This mark of appreciation emboldened me to make the present collection."Ouch!Prior to tackling this interesting collection, my only experiences with Stevenson had been his classic tales for youth, Kidnapped and Treasure Island. The stories of New Arabian Nights were written for an older and more worldly audience. The author, ever the master storyteller, managed to showcase his humor, dramatic flare, and superior plotting abilities in the six stories of this collection. His subjects ranged from a young man who accidentally backed into a house late at night through a door that wasn't latched, only to find that once inside there was no way out - to chronicling the nocturnal adventures of a pair of entertainers (husband and wife) who were locked out of their Paris hotel for a night because they returned after it had been secured for the evening.The best story in the collection is "The Suicide Club," a dark tale in which a European prince got himself entangled in a group of men who all had a desire to die. He assumed from what little he knew of the club, (he did not really want to die, and joined just to study the drama of the others), that he would be relatively safe. However, he learned at his first meeting that the club met each evening and the person who would die that night as well as the person who would do the killing were both determined through a game of chance. The prince, alas, was too proud to back out of his membership in the organization. Macabre complications ensued.Stevenson's stories in this collection were all very original. Each of the six took place in or around London or Paris, with a couple set in the 1400's and the others in Stevenson's own era of the late 1800's. They examined the human condition through tales of greed, revenge, murder, and even love. All had twists and turns aplenty, and were as captivating as they were clever.Robert Louis Stevenson was quite the prolific writer. I thoroughly enjoyed New Arabian Nights and will be on the lookout for more of his works. I predict he has a golden literary future!

She is the author of books and many articles advocating the use humane training methods to build a partnership with your horse. She has been a librarian, an inventory analyst, and an accountant. She is retired and currently lives in St. Paul, MN.

This book is truly a rare fantastic treat. Years of close observation, exact notes, personal experience and skill let the author tell this story. This is the world as the horse views it. You do not have to like or know anything about Spanish Mustangs to enjoy this one. There is not a trainer, horseman or animal lover that will not enjoy and benefit from this tale. I only wish I could give it more than five stars.

It is unique in that it is told from the horse's point of view. I thouroughly enjoyed reading about the trust and special bond that was built over the years between this horse and his owner and the good no-nonsense training techniques that were used. A book with something for everyone.

It's about this book which totally grabbed me -- a love story really, and so cleverly written. I found myself fond both of the horse and of the woman who belongs to him. Then there's the purpose of the story, I think, to make us aware of the fact that animals are sensate creatures to be treated gently and kindly. The psychologist in me likes the obvious fact that kindness and creatively careful timing do much more than punishment to produce the kind of behavior we hope to evoke. True for children and adults too. This book makes it hard to ignore that fact. Try it, whoever you are. You'll like it! In fact, I've recommended it on facebook.

Then I read this book. AHA moments abounded and I am all set to head to the market to pick up some green cleaning supplies. You didn't mention bleach in the book though. We love to use bleach in the house, but I am not sure it is safe. Well - I know it isn't safe around my dark clothes (why do I always splash?). But I've remedied that by just making all of my clothes tie-dyed.

By Joy White Great information on cleaning recipies, I never thought I'd be making my own laundry detergent or bathroom cleaner, but after realizing I'm sensitive to fumes and reading the harsh chemicals on the bottles I was using, I'm a convert now! Thank you!

From the minute I saw the cover I determined that it needed a flat surface so it can brighten my mood every time I see it. And inside - chock full of practical information for recycling jewelry to create homes in which birds would be happy to take up residence. I especially like the placement chart which suggests where to place the birdhouse for the birds we are trying to attract. I never realized our feathered friends were so particular! This book is a treasure.

The photos are all stunning, and the layout is perfect. The writing is so good – Everything is explained clearly, logically, and enticingly, with sparks of fun added in for good measure. Not to mention the amazing birdhouse projects themselves, which leap off the pages and make me want every last one! The book itself is a work of art – I think it will become the coffee-table book of choice in many homes!

They've even got me playing it some and I will say it's addictive! As a parent, I cannot allow my kids to play useless games so I purchased this book to help my kids learn more about Minecraft. They are very happy that I purchased this book. It helped them be more creative and they enjoyed a lot while learning new techniques and skills that they can use to mine diamonds, kill and harvest mobs and build structures in the game. I can definitely recommend this book to all beginners.

My brother plays minecraft a lot and, after wondering what the craze was about, I decided to read this book, before playing to give me a head start. I have been able to design such impressive stuff since reading this fantastic book. Packed full of great tips and highly recommended to those both new to minecraft and experts, you can really learn a lot from this book. A must read!!
