It's about people who live in a parallel universe one where humans are like today and then the other they are like slaves and pet's. I have to read another one in the series to really see how it goes but so far it's a good read.

Morin is an excellent steampunk fantasy that will keep you reading from start to finish. It is fast paced and exciting.The author has done a great job of setting the stage for his series, The Mad Tinker Chronicles, in this short story about a clockmaker and his adventures. The story was well written and fun to read.I liked J. S. Morin's characters and found them easy to follow. They were both believable and interesting.I enjoyed reading Inventing a Tinker by J. S. Morin and recommend this book to all readers.

This is good, but overpriced given the brevity of the work. Morin is exactly what I want in Steampunk. I first started reading Steampunk, with Scott Westerfeld's "Leviathan" series and I have become a big fan of the genre, it doesn't get much better than J.S. Morin.

And I also didn't expect that doing this kind of a hobby requires a little Math. Thanks to this book, now I understand them. I really appreciate the part where Betty describes the instructions and at the same time, provides images that I can rely on because I am a visual person. This is a great book. It’s quite detailed as it gets, but as someone who had never picked up a crocheting needle before, it was really helpful. It explains everything clearly and I can’t wait to start crocheting all kinds of things. It would be better if the table of contents was interactive though so readers can easily go to specific chapters. Overall, good guide. Don’t miss the chance to read this book!

Felt like 40% fantasy, 50% sailboats, and 10% scenery By GJ First let me say that I really enjoyed book 1 in this series and felt that it moved the story along. This book stagnated a little too much for me. If you are interested in sailboats, then this book will be a 5 star book for you. However, for me, the author spent way too much time describing the various characteristics of different sailboats and how they are operated. I can only hope that the protagonist steers well clear of the ocean in book 3. The author also spent a little too much time describing scenery in my opinion. This normally isn't an issue, but in this case it took away from character and plot development. I would have liked to see a little more action and dialogue.Slight spoiler: worst of all, just when you think you are going to get some movement, you find a depressing cliff hanger (I hate cliff hangers, especially when they are depressing). End spoiler.Another issue I have is the way the author summarizes an event. For instance (I am making this up to avoid spoilers but it is similar to what happens in the book): the protagonist leaves an area, then the author writes something like "Joe was thinking of his time in the area, he had met a girl and found she was very alluring. The conversation they had and the kiss she gave him upon leaving was something he would remember for a long time". I don't like this style because it feels more like history and takes the reader out of the feeling that they are part of the adventure with the protagonist and removes some of the suspense. I think this style can be used, just not for significant events that a reader should experience in the present. Finally, the little stories/poems at the beginning of a chapter seem a little random to me. I would like to see them have a little more to do with what happens in the chapter.All that said (and I admit the review seems a little harsh), I still look forward to the next book. I think the story has a lot of potential. I like the protagonist and the plot is interesting. I would like to see book 3 be a little more like book 1 than book 2. The author is better than most self published authors with sentence construction and editing. I think the series needs to be at least 4 books based upon the pacing so far and hope the author thinks the same.

This book and series left me screwed in that, and that is a good thing.Moves the story of Lian and his struggle forward quite a bit. Ending is suspenseful and....and of course ends just to where you go COME ON!Good writing a lot of it yes centers on the ships but considering the actions and things that happen its more realistic than what most authors preffer to move the stories forward. And besides you see Lian grow more into what he is going to be.Is it as good as the first one? Nope most aren't Most middle books tend to leave people feeling unsatisified...why? Because people have a long time to build up on expectations which are impossible to meet. Add that to the story being a continuation where there is no fresh new beginning and no epic ending...well.Over all a good continuation of the series can't wait for the third book.

You compare other series you read, but they never equal. As an avid fantasy reader, mine was the “Legend of the Seeker” series until now.The level of descriptiveness adds to the world building in my opinion. I was also surprised at the emotional connection you feel to the characters.This may not replace your favorite but give it a try. You may be surprised.

Lynch work many times, and this short story did not disappoint. It's got murder, suspense, creepiness, it's got that horror vibe it's a extraordinary read!Ringing the Devils Bell grabbed me from the beginning, I felt like I was right beside Ingrid through the entire story, I wanted to grab her, and shake her, but since I couldn't I had to make due with yelling at her, saying things like no don't do it, go the other way, stop, No, oh crap you did it, not good, abort!!If you are looking for a extraordinary, awesome, fantastic read pick up Ringing the Devils Bell I promise you will not be disappointed.I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Lynch does it again as she delivers us a short story, yet packed with thrills and chills. Her timing and execution are flawless in this one, bringing the reader to their knees, begging for more. I read this one twice in a row and was reminded of her talents. And don't get me started with the suspense and the poetic ending. Trust me, you will NOT be able to get the closing lines out of your head. I can only hope to be working along side her some day in an anthology or the like.Get to know her now before her career takes off!

This is a suspense-filled tale that will leave you breathless from beginning to end. I can't say much because I don't want to give spoilers, but this story was electric.The way she writes fear, it makes you feel what Ingrid was feeling. I read this at one in the morning, lights off, and I could feel the fear creeping into my body, as if transmitted from the story. This might be a short read, but it is definitely packed full of darkness!

This is their story.Those who enjoy Sci Fi and/ or understand Physics will eat this book up ! Those of us who enjoyed Language Arts and got no further than Algebra may need a little more help. Never fear help is at your fingertips.Since this is a book review, I need to explain the process I took to award it four stars. The first 15% of the story introduces us to people and terminology necessary for understanding (and enjoying) the remainder of the book. In my case it meant quite a bit of "Google"ing words and names I was not familiar with. In my opinion, it was time well spent.The author has headed each chapter ( and sometimes mid chapter) with a date, time and location . It is very helpful toward keeping the story straight There are many characters and they keep turning up in different time zones. I actually kept a paper log of the chapters and listed each new character introduced. You may not need this but my "old " brain found it helpful.The author does a good job presenting his characters and telling a very interesting story. There is more to the story than meets the eye. I found some metaphysics mixed with the scientific with a dash of religion lying on the edges. You may not see what I saw but remember I am a Language Arts "junkie"I don't know if there is another story simmering in Jason Fairchild's brain but if there is I'll bet it's a "doozy". If not, this is a good , solid stand alone book that can be enjoyed by myriad people of varied tastes.I was given a copy of this book for a fair review.

By DJR Jason Fairchild does a great job of setting up a fast-paced universe that realistically combines the frenetic energy of high-tech start-ups and ground-breaking quantum physics discoveries pitted against an unmovable deadline of global destruction by an alien entity. His passion for physics shines through and appeals to wonks and English majors alike, and his inclusion of several real life characters adds to the mix of fun and fascination as the story unfolds. This book does a solid job of pulling you into the rapid clip of the unfolding events, from the energy of joining a start-up, the excitement and wonder associated with the remarkable discovery of what happens when you dive deep into string theory with a helping of quantum physics (time travel!), the importance and rigor of scientific testing, and the horror the heroes of the book experience when they discover that Earth will be under attack in a matter of weeks by a seemingly overwhelming alien force. Fairchild manages to both end the story satisfactorily while leaving the reader wanting more, immediately! Highly recommended and enjoyable.

Lots of lengthy discussions of particle theory, quantum computing, string theory, and laser generated time travel! I, however, prefer action, adventure, romance, & humor so I got bogged down by so much technical discussion -- hence the 4 stars. I completely enjoyed the action and adventure bits, the plot, all the characters, and the surprise inclusions of Bill Gross & Steve Jobs -- especially how Steve might react to a visit from a computer scientist from the future! I'm even going to buy book 2 to see where the incredible new commanding General takes us in this first Time War! I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

It all starts with the murder of a powerful political figure. When Kricket is arrested and accused of the murder, anyone loyal to her is deemed a traitor. When Trey and all Kricket's friends refuse to give information or turn on Kricket, they too are arrested and tortured for information. As if they didn't have enough to worry about, Kyon is revived by an Alameeda Priestess and is more determined than ever to claim Kricket as his own. When Kyon issues a declaration of war against anyone who does not immediately turn over Kricket, the whole Planet finds themselves choosing a side. Ethar is now at war. Kricket, Trey, and all their friends must find a way not only to escape from jail, but must also depend on Kricket's unreliable ability to see the future in order to stay one step ahead of Kyon and all who wish to use Kricket as a bargaining chip. As war rages, Kricket and her friends find themselves on the run from new enemies as well as old as they fight for their lives. In the end, Kricket and Trey will have to decide how much they are willing to risk to be together. This book is darker and more passionate than the first book. The innocence of the first book is lost as the characters brace themselves for the devastation that accompanies war. This book was beautifully written. The only downside is for those who hate cliffhangers, i will warn this one ends with a big one! I will be biting my nails waiting for the next installment!

The books must be read in order to understand the series. I received an ARC from NetGalley.If you are familiar with Mrs. Bartol’s books, you know how her books are much more than words on a page. You know that they are poetry, written with a detail that is like no other author out there. They take you to an imaginary world so rich, you forget where you are.The book starts out where Under Different Stars leaves off. Kricket and Trey are getting ready to meet with Skye Command with Wayra and Jax. They believe that Kricket is going to be safe there. Kricket starts to have visions of the future and it doesn’t look good for her. The Rafian politicians are planning games with Kricket’s, Trey’s and the rest of the Cavar’s lives. To make matters worse, Kyon still wants Kricket to own as his consort and will stop at nothing to get her, including killing every Rafe on the planet.The story is “on the edge of your seat” action right from the beginning. There are aircraft chases, prison breakouts, sky-pack fights, drones, weapon fights and hand to hand combat. You meet new characters such as Giffen that has some handy powers of his own. You get to see some of the other priestess’s powers. The priestess’ are very interesting. I look forward to meeting the bird and the flower.About 50% in, we get some down time with Trey and Kricket. The scenes are perfect, well written and done in a way that Mrs. Bartol can. You lose yourself in their romance. Wow, Trey is perfect. Not only is he beautiful with his dark hair and violet eyes, but his soul is too. He loves with fierceness that I have only seen a few books. Kricket does at times remind me of another character of Mrs. Bartol’s, Genevieve Clairmont. She wants to keep everyone safe even if that requires her to sacrifice herself.The end is heartbreaking. Everything Kricket has ever wanted is taken from her. Everything she has led to believe was a lie. It is a cliff hanger ending. It will leave you with a book hangover. But it has never felt so good to be hung over.

Can't get enough By I Feel the Need, the Need to Read book blog I have loved Amy Bartol's books since I began reading the Premonition series way back when. However, when I started reading Under Different Stars, I was even more enamored with her. Yes, I love Evie and Reed and the rest of the gang, but there is something about Kricket and Trey and the world of Erath that speaks to my soul. Yes, you read right. This series affected me differently than the Premonition series. I'll try to explain it as best as I can.I think for me, the love between Trey and Kricket feels more emotionally driven and passionate. Some may argue that point with me, but read book 2 first before you comment. Amy intensified this in Sea of Stars. It's not that she takes their relationship to a new level, it's that she gets into the tiny little cracks and crevices of it. She puts a voice to their feelings and you can actually feel the little intricacies of their love. You can tell that she pours emotion into her writing and that there is a truth behind the words. The relationship feels real. Both Trey and Kricket are intelligent, strong, and I feel like I'm reading about real people.I said she took their relationship farther and she does. The way that she progresses their relationship to a more intimate place is beautiful. I was telling her that I was glad that she moved things to a physical relationship because it was time. If she had done the whole "Twilight" thing where they waited until marriage, it wouldn't have felt real and would have been groan and eye roll inducing. You can't be that intensely close to someone and go through the roller coaster that they have and NOT take it farther. I loved the scenes that she wrote. I thought they were alluring, romantic, sensual, and absolutely perfect. I know Amy is worried about the reaction to these moments by her readers, but I believe that it will all be for naught.Sea of Stars is an emotionally charged, action packed, tumultuous ride that will leave you breathless, frustrated, and completely spent at the end. There is a cliff hanger because Amy is a sadistic literary drug dealer who supplies you with the "crack" and then takes it away and dangles it in front of you right after you are hooked. And I love her for it. What does that say about me?? ;)

Hershman INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION - 1963It reads like a story of Big Government trying to shut down Independent Business. The setting is early in the 1960s at the advent of the modern space age. An enterprising company has set up a mining endeavor on an out-world to collect, process, and sell atmospheric gas products. The company is initially successful and an unnamed government entity of Earth has mobilized the Navy (??) to manufacture an incident to enable to government to shut down the operation and subsequently take it over. The company rebels and, led by the protagonists Mike Blades and Jimmy Chung, manage to derail the incident and save the company. This leads to the eventual successful establishment of quasi-independent out-worlds able to hold their own in the marketplace without Big Government control. A good, is somewhat fanciful story smacking of the time in which it was written. Worth the effort.DUEL ON SYRTIS - 1951A good short period piece of the "Buck Rogers" style. A trophy hunter of the future has arrived on Mars to "bag" a wild indigent Martian before they are all gone. You immediately form a dislike of the hunter and find yourself siding with the Martian character who is intelligent and aware. The hunter has all the modern advantages, and the Martian has little besides his cunning. In the end, the Martian survives and the trophy hunter is defeated, receiving a fitting end to his heinous quest. A quick enjoyable read.

By Rick Cook This novella is another in Poul Anderson's "Belter" stories about the industrialization of the asteroid. As you'd expect with an Anderson, there's a good deal of scientific background neatly worked in, techno-optimism, and a satisfying amount of hugger-mugger as the misguided villains try to stamp out freedom and free enterprise in the Belt. It rolls right along and wraps up nicely, as you'd expect from one of the great masters of classic science fiction. Of course it's dated, not so much for the technology but for the conditions today, still it's nice to be reminded what it was like to dream big.

However, this book is more than that. It is about how to design and create a home that reflects your life, passions, and who you are as a person. As a woman, I admire Marley Tabo wholly. Regardless of differences in taste or fashion, I found the book to be charming. There's nothing about the book gave me the feeling that Tabo's book was intended to show anyone how to design, and certainly not how to design on a budget. What I appreciated most about this book is how, as a creative person, I was able to connect with how blurry the line between the personal and the professional is with the designer. If you're willing to look past the glossy pictures and topical humor, what you'll actually find is an ageless story of overcoming the creative mind by letting it become the guiding principle for your life. It's a risk and a sacrifice, but, at least for this writer and designer, it seems to have been a gamble that paid off.

He makes it funny and I was laughing all the time when reading the book, which I think,mis very important, because it brings joy to the reader. The ideas of decorating on a budget are really well incorporated, and there are many tips given on how to decorate on a budget which we sometimes don't think about! I will definitely re-read the book and I highly recommend it to everyone!

If it were for free I can guarantee that it will end in the recycled bin. It didn't said anything of value, is not a contemporary design oriented, and all the things it said are common sense even for someone with no profesion in interior design. Save your $3 and do not waste your time reading this cheap book. Even for free is expensive if you compare with the cost of your time loss reading it.

Higley Jack London always kept me amazed, when I read his stories in my youth. After reading about, Jack London and his life, his stories are more understandable and anwers the question, how he knew about some of his stories, he wrote. Through his life of experiences he had, one can have more understanding od how he could captivate his readers. As for this book he wrote some are really good stories to read, but a few not as exciting as the others.But you can find that, having to do with other authors, as well.

I never had the desire to read about dragons / dragon shifters but I've always loved Viola's work. It's the way Viola writes that makes up the wonderful tale. I can't say enough how she is able to write so well that you feel you are right there with the characters. I laughed as I can imagine the dialogs and the looks on their faces. I even sat back and imagined what the treasures and the bathing pool looked like. It is all described so well and I can't wait for the next book to come out. I've rec'd this in return for an honest review... and I honestly loved this .... dragon shifters are also going to be on the top of my reading list for a while now. I loved this so much that I've gone and searched out other dragon shifter stories but so far nothing compares as of yet.

I liked that he was a dragon and he didn't like being around humans. He had eaten a few before, but didn't care for them. When he found Madja in his lair trying to take his gold, he can't help but to find her intriguing and wants to keep her. He finds himself drawn to her more ways than one. Once he finally has her, he can't get enough.Looking forward to the next book, can't wait!

Honestly I didn't expect myself to, but i got caught up in the cute lovable story weaved between the two main characters. Once I started, I couldn't stop. I think I may buy into this many more times but it ended at three. I felt it was a little bit loss of potential, but the ride there was worth the money.I'm very enchanted and thrilled by the characterizations from the main protagonists. They're predictable in a non-predictable way (like boy meets girl, wants girl, gets girl, happily ever after. But it's done so well in this trilogy that I enjoyed the predictability because I root for this couple and wanted them to be together SO much.)The girl is a strong main character. She lives on her own terms or at least tries to unless her life is threatened...by none other than our charming and apathetic immortal dragon of course. When her life is threatened, she works with what she has to her advantage. And it succeeded.She is an artifact appraiser and what does the dragon have more in his immortal life?Match made in heaven.At first he thought she was only there to steal his treasures, but the more he observed her, the more it confused him because she seemed to value his treasures and not just take whatever was there. When he confronted her, she inadvertently told him the history behind the treasures she picked out. It's very much like Scheherazade/One Thousand and One Nights, where she got to live another day because he's fascinated by the stories behind his valuables. And every day they spent together, the more he fell for her companionship, charms, looks and quirkiness. And him being this ethereal, powerful, gorgeous creature captured her adoration as well. This underlying thread of sexual tension culminated until that fateful day when they did the deed. Just FYI, that scene was just hot tamales. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Pretty soon, our main girl was in love but constantly questioned her dragon's devotion. It added a lot of depth and humor into their relationship when they bicker and she questions his "logical" thinking & marvels at his talented lack of tact. I'm just really scratching the surface of this book, because there's so much to write about. But once you read the book, you will love her as much as I do.I loved how blunt the dragon was, no holding back. In some ways he reminds me of how some guys really are - totally clueless to what insensitive comments can come out of their mouths. Regardless he's still a very adorable and charming creature. His disinterest in human related activities (except, ahem, that one thing) is understandable, given that he has lived for so long. He knows human won't last and having affections for one was akin to being stupid. Until, of course, he met our female protagonist. Then he slowly changes his tune and starts to enjoy human companionship. We can see him develop into a much more well-rounded individual under the tutelage and gentle (sometimes rough) guidance of our girl. In the span of a novel, the change in him is still very believable and endearing. I ship him all the way, even if he doesn't know what love is. Because love isn't always about verbiage, it's about actions. And his actions prove that despite himself and the way he feels, he loves his woman deeply.I WISH THERE WAS MORE THAN 3 BOOKS!
