By Melinda Matthews This is an excellent read I would highly recommend to anyone who is contemplating acquiring any bird as a pet. It's very well written and full of insights to let you know what you'll be looking forward to as well as just what you'll be signing up for. I also had an experience with a bird who died of a broken heart so I will most likely never have another bird in captivity. On the other hand, I had the awesome, unique opportunity years ago to babysit a friend's cockatoo for two weeks, and it was a blast and an experience I will value forever. Know that birds can be wonderful companions, but you will need to be informed. This book will give you the heads-up you need so you can know how to prepare if you plan on becoming a bird owner, especially if you plan on that bird being a cockatiel. The author is quite the expert on them!

A Great Instructional Book on Getting Your First Cockatiel By debb I wish I would have had a book that had great information like Laurel’s does when my bird came home with me. I didn’t even know the proper cage to get and only had the salesperson’s word on what to feed my new bird.I learned why the cockatiel I was babysitting wouldn’t stop calling for me and what to do about it. This book is very well written with each chapter handling major points a new cockatiel must know before bringing their new bird home. What struck me were the real-life stories bringing home the advice written in the book. Every detail to care for your soon-to-be beloved feathered friend is included.

Obviously, Laurel A Rockefeller is extremely well-informed about birds. In simple terms, the author provides a wealth of information pertinent to owning Cockatiels.
