They see death. Can they share a life? Ruth Scott can read the energy of every person she meets. Then she meets Deacon Walker. She can see his ice-blue eyes, his black hair, and his gorgeous face. But this beautiful stranger has no aura. Deacon is just as unsettled by Ruth—and, having spent more than two hundred years ushering souls to Purgatory, Deacon is seldom shocked by anything. As he helps Ruth to understand her true nature, she awakens desires that he decided long ago a Reaper can’t afford. A demon invasion forces Deacon to confront the darkness in his own past even as he fights to save the human souls he’s charged to protect. When he’s taken captive, his first concern is for Ruth. But Ruth just might be able to save herself—and the Reaper she can’t live without—if she can learn to wield her newfound powers.

About the Author Lisa has always enjoyed reading about monsters in love and now she writes about them, because monsters need love too. She adores beasties of all sorts, fictional as well as real, and has a farm full of them in her Southwest Missouri home, including: one child, one husband, two dogs, two cats, a dozen hens, thousands of Italian bees, and a guinea pig. She may or may not keep a complete zombie apocalypse bug-out bag in her trunk at all times, including a machete. Just. In. Case.

The ability had set her apart from people and has led to a lonely existence. While leaving the hospital after her mother’s death, she bumps into Deacon, a man with no aura. But Deacon is no ordinary man, but is a reaper who works the hospital to claim the souls of the newly departed. He picks up on Ruth’s own lack of aura and its deeper meaning: Ruth is not human. But what is she? Determined to find out, he tracks her down and realizes that she is an untrained reaper who has managed to slip through the cracks. Bonded by their mutual attraction and his agreement to train her in reaping, they team up to claim souls and fight demons in an adventure that literally takes them to Hell and back.Pure entertainment! This book is fun, scary, humorous, romantic and sexy. I couldn’t put it down—except for the times when I had to set it aside because it was so creepy (in the best possible way). I got lost I in the story, and forgot I was reading a book. It was like I was right there with the characters to experiencing what they went through. I enjoyed author Lisa Medley’s casual writing style, the ebb and flow of tension, the well-developed deep points of view, and the wit and humor in the story. For an engrossing read or to take at peek at the “other side,” you won’t want to pass up on Reap & Repent. I’m eagerly waiting book 2 and 3 of the Reaper series.

The author is very well educated in the subject of metaphysics and world religion. It is rare that an author of this generation can truly earn my respect on an academic level. Yet Lisa did, and then some.I have for over 20 years (since my brothers murder) been a student of all things "after". Growing up in New Orleans you have an open mind to things others might think are insane. For example I salt the entrances and burn sage in every corner of a new house before I move in. It wasn't until I moved to Texas that I learned this was not something that everyone did.So much of this book was relatable for me, knowing the origins and accuracies of the little supernatural tidbits that laced each sub story made it feel more real. Like an insight onto a world we are not privy to, but excruciatingly curious about.Much like Dante's Divine Comedy or Paradise Lost by Milton, this book leads you on a hero's quest not only through the obvious but also through the full gauntlet of fable conflicts;Man vs ManMan vs the worldMan vs himselfGood vs EvilHeaven vs HellIt is in every way a perfect amount of a great epic tale , a short metaphysics crash course, teen romance, and blockbuster tag lines that you would expect from a swanky demon played by Vince Vaughn or Bruce Campbell. In all the artistry that is Lisa Medley she has taken this Homer-equé (not a real word, moving on) combination of characters and scenes, compacted them in to series format, and dashed them with Alphas , damsels , imagination and mythology, added a pinch of romance, a heaping spoonful of wit and banter, a little zest of angst and rebellion, stirred it all together and served it up in delicious little morsels that my mind devours like a fresh plate of French macaroons at a tea party, and my heart craves more of, also like a fresh plate of macaroons.Off to read book 2 .....send macaroons.

Now that was a HOT story! *snicker* I thoroughly enjoyed this book and absolutely cannot wait for more! Even though this story starts off sad and blue, I was very quickly drawn into it. While I can’t say that I can relate to Ruth or her situations, or to Deacon or Nate or, well any one or their stories, it is a very “real” story. By this I mean that there are enough normal or regular life stuff happening to give this story an almost “grounded” feeling to it. Ruth is alone in the world, because of her “freaky” abilities that she can’t understand and tries to keep hidden. So she is withdrawn, no friends, never any boyfriends so she is used to being in the background and not really looking at anyone. So when she runs into Deacon (literally) and he has no aura, she panics and runs. Except fate has other things in store for her. This easily could have been a horror tale, or a very unbelievable weak fluff type of story. However Lisa has done a fabulous job writing one Hell of an engrossing story and now she needs to have a proud moment to reap the praise! Which is what I hope to do here – reap the praise on her! ummm, I mean HEAP, heap the praise on her! LOL The story line is very rich and deep with a lot of places/world and character building to it. There is much MUCH more that is left to be answered, lots of abilities to learn, problems to solve, souls to reap - you know, the norm! And of course, there are my guesses and theories to prove. Or disprove as the case may end up being! I loved the humor in this book! Humor ranging from sarcastic to snarky, to puns to side-splitting LOL moments all helps to lighten the story up but in a way that helps to add to the richness and depth. All of the characters fit in well together and they all feel like they have a purpose. None of them feel rushed or are there just for the sake of throwing in another race or species, it is not overloaded trying to fit in too many types with an interesting array of “things” like demons, imps, spirits/souls, reapers and well, I could go on but why ruin it for you! I completely loved all of the tricks, twists, turns, magic, abilities, friendships and of course the romance too! I loved how even though there is romance involved, that is not the main focus. It is there and a lot of decisions are based on or around the romance, but it very beautifully enriches and adds to the Paranormal tone of the story. It happens along with & because of the situations, not the other way around. There was the odd moment where I was a little perplexed, I guess you can say. But they did NOT affect the story in any way and I have this feeling that future books in the series will address or answer those questions for me. This book has that “awesome multiple book series” vibe to it. Rather sneaky of Lisa if you ask me! (You know it’s a bad turn of events when you’d rather go to Purgatory than have a hard conversation.) But I do have to say that those books are my favorite! I like having the big story line that takes books to explore, where I have a lot of characters to love, hate, suspect, ignore, etc. Lisa has me completely mesmerized and obsessed! Mmmm, now about that bacon…. (read the book! It will all make sense to you then! :) )
