Pisces: Book 1 (The Zodiac Twin Flame Series), by Rachel Medhurst Review "Pisces: Book 1 (The Zodiac Twin Flame Series) by Rachel Medhurst is a very interesting, unique story that I think will take readers by surprise. It is not your typical romance, but romance readers will enjoy the slow burning love that ignites between Pisces and Antony. I loved the characters in this story. They were very well written and seemed like they knew exactly what they wanted. Pisces struggled with completing her mission and sometimes wanting to be selfish and just live her life like a normal teenager.I think teenage readers especially will be able to relate to her struggles and wonder why there is so much pressure on her." 4* - Reviewed By Janelle Fila for Readers' Favorite"PISCES by Rachel Medhurst was really an enjoyable read and a good start to what might be a great series. It's fast paced, full of suspense and intrigue which is exactly what one looks for in a YA novel." -JJ Smit for YA Insider"Pisces is a feel-good, crazy enjoyable thrill ride that combines the traits of the Zodiac with a divine mission" - YA BookMadness Blog "YES! Anyone who can create a PNR story about Zodiacsigns, has my vote!"-thejerseybookaholic

I don't generally read fantasy because I don't enjoy it. I picked this one up thinking it was a romance, which it was as well. The author Rachel Medhurst has done a great job of changing my opinion of the fantasy genre. The book is set on earth as we know it and the characters are very human in their emotions which has made the transition into fantasy easier. I loved that they had powers and that drove the story line that was based around Pisces. Her mission is to find her perfect love match. Each of the signs need to find theres as well which will be examined in future books. Aries is next which I am happy about because that's what I am. This is a fast paced read but the characters are developed and interesting. Ms Medhurst has made a fan out of me.

Not the Insta-Love story I was expecting By Willie Graham Firstly, I would like to thank Miss Rachel Medhurst for providing me with a copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest review. A review that I have spent the better part of a day trying to come up with. This was a difficult one for me. I really wasn't sure how I felt about it and needed some extra time to wallow around in my notes and thoughts. So here goes…Pisces and her 11 “brothers and sisters” make up The Zodiac. Their particular mission on Earth is to find their twin flame, soul mate, and be an example to the world of what true love is and to bring more happiness and love to Earth. Their “parents”, a.k.a. their Guardians, are supposed to help them along the way to complete their mission. (did I mention that they each have special abilities?) The bad guys are called the Dysfunctionals. Their main mission is to keep the twin flames from getting together. They like evil and hate and want to keep the balance on the chaotic side.Pisces is the emotional type and battles with wanting to complete her mission and wanting to just forget it all and live a normal life. But a normal life is not even a possibility because there is always someone trying to kidnap her. Enter the bodyguard…Pisces has always imagined what it would be like when she finally met her twin flame; sparks and butterflies and all that. So when Antony, her bodyguard, comes along without bringing on the fireworks Pisces is quick to dismiss him. Her brothers and sisters tell her it’s plain-as-day that he’s the one, but she can’t accept that, and neither does Antony. Yet.She gets kidnapped by Nick, a Dysfunctional, rescued, and later kidnapped again, and then rescued again. Only this time, while being held captive she learns the truth about her mother (I had a feeling from the beginning), finds out about her past lives, realizes that Antony is her twin flame, and then her father winds up in the custody of the Dysfunctionals.By now Pisces and Antony have accepted that they are soul mates and are taking time to enjoy being together while her brothers continue to look for their father. The End.Now, for my thoughts and feelings…This was difficult to get through at first. I had to force myself to turn the page and keep going. But, I’m glad I did. It picked up, we saw some action, got some clarification, and it became much easier to read.Throughout the first few chapters I got quite confused. There seemed to be a few contradictions that had me scratching my head. There were several times in the book where sentences seemed completely misplaced and just haphazardly thrown in. I would be reading then be like, “So what? Why does that matter?” or “Umm, that doesn't really fit there.” Then there was the spelling. Oh my. I thought there were lots of spelling mistakes until it finally dawned on me that they’re in London. The spelling is the British spelling, not the English. So, OK. Weird for me, but OK. So at about 30% in I starting reading in my head with an English accent and it help the flow of the book, a lot. Because I kept that going for the rest of the book I found it difficult to break character when I was finished, so that was fun. But I digress.Somewhere about midways through I found it was difficult to put down for a while. Not because it was so good, but because I just knew we were finally getting somewhere and I was about to get answers. Well, it took a while after that, but I did get some answers and some insight. Not enough to suit me, but enough to keep me going. And for the longest time I couldn't figure out if they were human or aliens or what. We do finally get an explanation. Don’t worry it will all make sense. Before I even started reading I was already dreading the expectant insta-love. It just seems like that kind of story. But I am delighted to announce that it never happened. There was a build up, slightly.Over all, I kinda like it. I believe one’s opinion of this particular book is highly influenced buy books you have previously read and or the genre you are used to reading. This was definitely a new kind of read for me. I do tend to steer towards fantasy and paranormal, and though this book fits those categories it still had elements that made it different. It’s difficult to articulate what exactly. In my opinion, I think this is better suited for the younger crowd. Not necessarily the older adults that read Teen/YA.Will I read the next in the series, Aries? Uhhh…Who knows? It’s not on my Must Read list, but I’m definitely not opposed to the idea.
5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Idea was good, but poorly executed. By Amazon Customer This book looked interesting, and definitely contained some great parts. Overall, though, its writing was silly and unfavorable. I was excited because reviews gave such a high opinion of the fantasy book. I don't know how many fantasies these people have read, but this didn't measure up.The story is of a girl, who, with 11 other "siblings" need to find their own soulmates to bring more love into the world. They each have powers and personalities according to their zodiac name, guardians ("parents"), and a nemesis ("dysfunctional"). This girl eventually finds her soulmate. Most of the book one or both are in denial, as they go through crazy experiences together to save each other from the head bad guy.PROS: What a fabulous idea! Combining the zodiacs with a search for soulmates is definitely original. The powers and personalities of each "sibling" is a nice touch. The subject promises a tantalising plot. The character craves freedom which everyone can identify with and empathize. There are funny characters, like Derek, a mentor character, the "father", and the arch enemy, Nick. Each is clearly displayed and plays a roll in advancing the plot.I read the first page or two and was enthralled. This book promises action! It promises character development! It promises plot twists!CONS This book did not keep its promises.First off the overall writing was redundant, contradictory, and silly. She would say the same thing twice and say far too much. Even at the end of the book she is explaining her character to readers. She TELLS us about her character instead of SHOWing it. Instead of telling us she gets overloaded by too much information, or that she wants alone time, or gets annoyed by a certain brother, or that she is emotional, it needed to be shown more. There were certain parts that appeared unedited and therefore contradicted themselves. For example, at one point it says something like this. " I stank. I hadnt taken a shower all week. Luckily, so-and-so let me wash and brush my teeth this last week." ...? It didnt describe reactions or sensations enough to suck you in. The first gunshot scene, for example. I felt nothing. No fear. Just gunshots. Lets squeal and have a scene with a love interest. No heart racing. No adrenaline rush. It just kind of popped in there like it was copy and pasted. No transition, which was another problem. There was absolutely no transition between scenes. It was as if she was seeing a movie in her head instead of a book. You can't fade in and fade out in a book. There has to be a GOOD transition, leading one event to the other, so that the reader is dragged along. Things go missing if you are missing a transition. The story becomes choppy. For example she is determined to smooch this guy into believing that she loves him and use him to get away. Fade. Now its a week later, she's moving me to another place. There is a bag over her head. She must have been drugged, and...oh yeah that plan never worked FYI.Furthermore, her character lacked a certain depth, as did her twin flame. He is running from her, but there isn't any other explanation except that he is " scared". He nearly killed himself running away from her! Scared my behind! There is something wrong with him. Did we explore that? No. Just suddenly he is all good to go again. He is a bodyguard character. Nothing more. Nothing less. He is protective. Does he have any interests? Any hobbies? Anything more to him other than being good-looking?Another thing, you can't make every character drop-dead gorgious! Not feasable or relatable.Nothing more to bad-guy either. His reason for hating them? Its his "mission".Now what about the fantasy element? I'm a little disappointed she didn't discover a new power, or dive into the past-life thing. I thought there would be more... MORE to her mission. Nope. Fall in love in a sappy, unrealistic setting. (Not that there is anything wrong with sappy if you TRANSITION into it.)The main characters do the same things over and over yet it made no difference to their characters. She is told to love herself first. That goes nowhere. She is told to surrender. Doesn't do that either. She rescues him. He rescues her. Over and over. The situations are bizarre and a little farfetched. It is a fantasy book but it is set in modern London. There has to be a small sense of reality in there.Too many side characters. Pick the siblings most important in her life and use them to influence her. It became confusing, and it felt like the personalities got all mingled up. Also not too much a fan of people with no morals, and it felt like all her siblings wanted was sex or tease the others about there sex lives. Where was their sense of mission? Isn't saving the world, by falling in love, paramount? It diminished the goal of the book. The end rescue scene at her father's house should have been the climax, but it didn't feel like a climax. So... No climax?Don't get me wrong, the book was good enough to keep reading, but not because of the writers ability and more for interest in the idea. I don't enjoy writing unsatisfactory reviews, but I felt someone who has read ALOT of fantasy and some experience writing it, should warn those with high expectations like myself.
