I believe it to be a fundamental error to attempt to judge one era by the standards of another. Get over it!Well written, clean and tight prose, these are lovely examples of early pulp fiction.

Using the "Yellow Peril" myth, Rohmer writes, I believe, with an incredible respect for the Chinese people. There is a reverence for the Insidious Doctor, as a great genius. Indeed, the later novels have Dr. Fu Manchu as a collaborator with the Western powers against communism and fascism. In Tales of Chinatown, the first tale is well-written with a sympathetic twist for the old Chinaman fence. Read and enjoy.
