About the Author Colin Garrow wrote his first novel at the age of 16. Admittedly, it was only four pages long, didn’t have an actual ending and was probably the worst story ever written, but the creative spark was there and he’s been trying to be a writer ever since. Colin studied Drama at the University of Northumbria, and also has a Post Grad Diploma in Community Education. He was a founder and Artistic Director of WAC Theatre (The Writers and Actors Collaboration Theatre Company) in Aberdeen until the company folded in 2011. Rehearsal videos of some of his plays can be found on YouTube (The Body in the Bag, Towards the Inevitability of Catastrophe, No Phones on Planet Pluto). Although theatre and writing stage plays took up quite a few years of his life, Colin has also written several short stories, some of which have appeared in literary mags (SN Review, Flash Fiction Magazine, Flash Flood, Word Bohemia, Every Day Fiction, The Grind, A3 Review, 1,000 Words, Inkapture, Scribble Magazine…). He currently lives in a humble cottage in North East Scotland where he writes novels, plays, stories, poems and the occasional song. He also makes rather nice cakes.

Carter This selection of short stories is compelling, with all of them evoking very different emotions. Some are horrifying, others funny, others suspenseful, so the range is excellent. 'If the Worst' will have you laughing at Ellen's metamorphosis; 'Her Ready-to-Wear Life' is like one of the better Twilight Zone episodes; 'How the World Turns' gives a fable's p.o.v. on thermodynamics; 'Bed Death and Breakfast' is straight-up suspense/horror, cinematic in its intensity. Several of the stories sent me off on thought experiments, tangents, musings about my own life, an influence that fiction only rarely has on me. Enjoy!

Living for yourself, for you.” (14)These are a collection of soulful tales.Colin’s words are a playful dance of poetry when describing the simplest of objects such as a shed. However, there also lies a glimmer of confusion and disparity. I mean, what kind of fool drills a hole in his head? Weird. One of the stories had a “Norman Bates” quality—a B&B keeper is still holding on to his dead wife….literally! I thought that was a good one since I love Psycho.Although lyrical in prose, stories can be a little vague, which, I guess, can make them open to interpretation. All in all, I liked some more than others.
