In this book the author, an American textile artist specialising in wearable art, explains how to do this. After the introductory chapters about materials and techniques there are nine chapters filled with detailed instructions to make flowers, leaves and garden accessories, ranging from very simple to quite intricate designs. Overall, the book is a visual treat for the eyes with many examples of flowers that may be used for hats, broaches and decorations. The author Christen Brown clearly explains the difference between creating ribbonwork and ribbon embroidery. While there are examples of flowers for the beginners to create, they will also have challenges for creating the more advance flowers.Four stars for the book for the following reasons. There were some negatives that the reader needs to be aware of. Brown made the classic mistake of too often using the same color thread as the ribbon. This makes it difficult to see the stitches. Experience sewers sometimes forget that when you are demonstrating a technique, the audience needs to see the stitches! Brown also does not always show the ribbon stitches before pulling the thread to rouche the ribbon.There are many great ideas that should encourage ribbon flower makers to discover ideas of their own.
