0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. One of the Masters of Space Opera By Walter Stanley I have recently rereading the science fiction authors who were widely-read when I was a teenager. I consider Edmond Hamilton to be a particularly good find. Admittedly, he takes no pains to make his science accurate, but his story settings and background are always fun and imaginative and his characters interesting. In this one, a man, Hysrt, is wrongly sentenced for murder to fifty years of suspended animation. An unexpected side effect of suspended animation is that the people wake up with the power of mental telepathy. Hysrt is only interested in clearing his name and bringing the real killer to justice, but he happens to know, subliminally at least, where there is a store of material that is necessary for the construction of a starship drive. So two factions are making use of him to procure it.

SCI-Fi, Fun and well written By reader This is a thriller SCI-Fi book, sort of time travel but well managed, I enjoyed the book and you will - if you like the genre -.Tha beggining of the book is specially different and thrilling.The characters are strong and well defined, the story flows fast and keeps you interested, even when this is an old book it doesn't feel outdated, I got this free from kindle, but I would have paid for it.

After one wakes up he realizes he can see and talk to others just using his mind. He sets out to find the man who really committed the crime he was punished for and finds friends and foes along the way. I thought this was entertaining and you can't beat the price on Kindle--free!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A solid read from a new author By Hairball This book was recommended to me by Amazon based off the books I have bought in the past. Normally, the recommendations are way off, causing me to give them all a solid pass. This book, however, I am glad I decided to take the chance on!I've read that it feels like a Japanese manga in feel and overall topic. Having read that there is much truth in it. I could just picture seeing the action laid out panel to panel, the descriptions the author gives vivid without getting too bogged down.I really appreciated the author's approach to the supernatural/fantasy genre. The main character is flawed, her family history a constant source of turmoil. In many of the books I have read the main character usually has their act together right from the start, and doesn't have the demons most of us have to deal with in real life. This approach allows the reader to identify and connect with the main character early, and through that her struggles become more real for the reader, more meaningful. The action is well-paced, and the writing is well done for a first novel, being humorous when it needs to be, and tense when appropriate.My only complaint about the book was that I became so engrossed in it by the time I realized it it was over :) There were very few grammar/spelling mistakes, which is a refreshing change nowadays. I have certainly added this author to my watch list.

The more I got into it the more I found myself getting wrapped up in the story. It is more complex than I thought at first and I really found myself liking Karin & Misaki. They played so well off each other and their relationship just became so sweet and so supporting. It was fun to watch as Misaki came more into herself. Sloughing off the abused slave/servant and becoming a strong and self assured woman in her own right. This was a wonderfully fun read and I really hope to see more about these two strong and caring women.

Preslar Bound Together is a great story with strong characters, a good action plot, and enough humor and cuteness to fill your heart up for at least a week. There are some predictable spots, but sufficient surprises and clever dialogue to make up for the "Yep! Saw that coming" moments. The relationship between Karin and Misaki is devastatingly sweet and the way Misaki's character comes to life as the story unfolds is wonderful to behold.

About the Author

Bob Alderman started modelling back in the 1950s and over the years has worked in 4mm and later 7mm scale, which is now his main interest. Bob has built, and helped to build, several model railway layouts, has written a number of articles in modelling magazines, and has been a tutor on many railway modelling courses. In addition, he serviced on the Gauge O Guild's Technical Committee for over a decade and was one of the Guild's directors. Bob was for many years a mechanical engineer in a major aerospace company and his engineering background has given him an excellent understanding of how bridges and viaducts are built.

A Montage of Short Stories is a wonderful and very well written collection of easy reading stories/tales. There is a little of bit of The Twilight Zone, On Golden Pond and more important "real life" in the various stories. My initial intent was to read the first couple stories and take stock of the book’s flow; well before I knew it I was on story 7 or The Inheritance. My personal favorites were A Senior Holiday, The Devil Visits Sugar Creek and the relevant Other Side of the Bed. Please take the time to read some of them…you won’t be disappointed.

This is a very enjoyable read and I think most will enjoy this writer's unique style and expression. Open to any page and just go! You will hungrily devour this collection and be a bit saddened when you've finished and find yourself wishing for more. If that is the case, check out his other novels. I have read every one of her books and I eagerly wait for her next release. But I was dissapointed in this book. But let's start with the positives:1. As always the story is written well, with limited or no typos, and creative use of language to invoke imagery.2. We got to spend time with Trig and now I can't wait for his story! We also got a teaser of Jarmen from the Lords of Kassis series. I have been dying for his story, and was thrilled to get snippets of his and Janes story.3. We also got more of Taylor and Saber . I can't wait for their story too!The things that are not so good:1. For me this story lacked depth and the angst. I just didn't have the nervous, expectant, feeling in the bottom of my belly, that compels me to fly through the pages.2. I didn't care for the flash backs. Don't get me wrong, reminiscing about how they first met serves a purpose, but I would rather hear it in the first chapter or the prologue, not through most of the story.3. The villains motivation was never really clear to me. I was also dissapointed with Dagger during the climax when he had the chance to really lay into the villian. Instead the villian gets eaten by a wild animal! It wasn't satisfying at all. I wanted him to be ripped from limb to limb.4. The hero and heroine just didn't draw me into their love story. It wasn't poignant for me. Maybe there wasn't enough action. I found myself more interested in the sub plots than the actual story.: (Please Mrs. Smith, I can wait for as long as it takes for the story to be ready. I would rather wait than have a quick fix and be dissapointed.P.S. I will still be reading : )

Smith's books,and now Dagger is right up there with it. Dagger and Jordan have been separated for over two years.Jordan is the only one that didn't give up on Dagger when they said that he had been killed.Dagger is being forced to fight for a very bad villain....and Jordan is just smart enough to find out where he his.I really liked that Jordan was so smart, but also smart enough to ask for help to get to Dagger.Their love story is sweet, in spite of the violence that surrounds them and is full of action,sexy moments and a great story line.

The text was very difficult to follow. There were no pictures. The author would post directions for making something, but it was not clear what she was having us make. There were a couple of helpful sentences, but mostly it was a waste of time to read. I got it because the picture on the cover is clever. I did like her idea of hiding valuables behind the toe-kicks in kitchen cabinets. I feel like the people who gave 5 stars didn't read the book or were friends of the author trying to help the ratings. This book would be helped by serious editing, topic headings, and pictures.

I believe it to be a fundamental error to attempt to judge one era by the standards of another. Get over it!Well written, clean and tight prose, these are lovely examples of early pulp fiction.

Using the "Yellow Peril" myth, Rohmer writes, I believe, with an incredible respect for the Chinese people. There is a reverence for the Insidious Doctor, as a great genius. Indeed, the later novels have Dr. Fu Manchu as a collaborator with the Western powers against communism and fascism.In Tales of Chinatown, the first tale is well-written with a sympathetic twist for the old Chinaman fence. Read and enjoy.

Swardstrom Just like in his massive hit, "Cyberstorm," Matthew Mather does what he does best: he takes reality and adds just enough of a sci-fi touch to make it terrifying and relatable.When I first started reading DARKNET, it took a little while before I became really engrossed in the high-tech world of finance that the protagonist Jake O'Connell lived in. Just like some of the characters themselves, I found myself in over my head in the world of crypto currency, algorithms, assassin markets, and dark networks, but my patience was rewarded when the reader learns alongside those characters.Mather makes sure the reader knows no one is safe in his world, introducing and killing off multiple characters throughout the book. In fact, I wasn't totally sure if his protagonist Jake was really truly safe to get comfortable with until about a quarter of the way into the book.As a stock broker in New York, Jake is familiar with the high-stakes game of Wall Street finances, but is unprepared when his world crumbles around him. His childhood friend dies in a mysterious accident in London, his boss is arrested on charges by the SEC, and he himself is framed for rape, causing his wife and daughter to leave him. All the while, Jake is trying to clear himself and ends up uncovering a massive secret that could threaten the economies of nearly every country on the planet. Along the way, he finds his own life in danger as well as those of his family and friends.Once I really got into the story, I couldn't put it down, reading in every spare minute until I was done. Mather is a phenomenal storyteller, weaving a thriller like the best out there. I was impressed with the immense and complex world he had created in DARKNET, topped only by the characters and the situations they find themselves in around every corner.The scary thing about DARKNET is that Mather completely creates a plausible scenario for a near-future event. What if some of the technology we use and employ today evolves to the level of where it exists in DARKNET? What would happen? Just like the potential of catastrophe in "Cyberstorm," Mather presents a worst-case scenario of sorts in the midst of a thriller.I loved this book and will look forward to reading it again in the future. The author’s notes at the end of the book tell us some of the scary things in his story that are already going on in the world, or check them out on the internet: Digital Autonomous Corporations, talking to customers and business contacts and carrying on business electronically without human participation. Darknet market places, anonymous decentralized online organizations carrying on open black market trading with no regulatory oversight.Follow the money? What money? Crypto currencies and who knows what their value is at the moment? And finally an Assassination Market list, but humans may not have to carry out the orders since almost anything nowadays from a car to a coffee pot operates on some kind of computerized instructions that can be accessed electronically.The characters are well drawn and the tension never lets up as more and more power is acquired by a corporate entity that may or may not be directed by humans. The people trying to stop it are running out of time as more of them disappear or are kept on the run. I am happy to recommend this book as an exciting story and a great read. I received a Kindle format Advance Reading Copy for an honest review.

Fantastic techno thriller filled with real world facts and events By Jorge Amodio I've been working in computer science for many years and had the privilege in the early eighties to become an Internet pioneer. In those early days we didn't really envision such a dramatic growth for something that was considered just and academic experiment on networking. In about the same timeframe while Artificial Intelligence R&D was progressing but in the CS world was more a good excuse to get additional funding. Fast forward to the present and Darknet shows, even being a fictional novel, how plausible and part of our daily lives the combined power of AI and the Internet could be. I really like that Matthew Matter embedded in the history many facts and events from real life, and how he extrapolated the current technology to create an action filled techno thriller. Two Thumbs Up for Darknet from Computer/Networking Geek.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. from an era when writing was the dominant media By Brian L Mitchell I hadn't read O.Henry since high school and came across a couple of his books at a sale. Sixes and Sevens is a group of unrelated short stories written from around 1904 through 1907, they are easy reads and very entertaining. I believe writing back in those days was much more an art form than what we produce today, possibly because it was such a dominant media back then people cared more and demanded more. Take time to look back at these early 20th century works and you'll see as I have, the only constant in our world are the people in it, despite all our technological innovation, we haven't changed at all

Astrid moved clear across the ocean to get away from her abusive ex. Killian to keep from being forced to mate him.Then she discovers her new neighbor is Killian's Brother Kendrick. Astrid does not understand why she is so attracted to him true he is attractive but so was his brother. Astrid knows she should not be lusting after the enemy. Kendrick is also hiding out from his brother and his pack. Astrid escaped from the pack with her best friend Marcie both of them did not want to be forced into a mating. Astrid's wolf wants Kendrick only her human side is fighting it. One day on the way home from work Astrid is almost run off the road by a BMW car. Astrid knows Kendrick drives one and believes he was the one. When she gets home she confronts Kendrick afterwards she heads over to her home only to get shot at. Kendrick sees the guy about to shoot Astrid so he dives and pushes her out of the way just to get shot himself. Kendrick gets rid of the guy they find out was sent by Killian. Now they must flea the area together. This is an amazing suspenseful series you will want to get!

Astrid is on the run from her ex who wants to force mate her or kill her if she refuses. She decides to live in Tuscany and only date humans so she won't ever be forced to be submissive. Kendrick is the brother of her ex and she views him as an enemy and wants nothing to do with him, but her wolf wants him, but she doesn't know that he is on the run also. When Killian finds her and tries to have her killed Kendrick steps in and saves her. Together they go on the run and find themselves falling for each other. This is a great short story, but it does leave some unanswered questions that hopefully in the future we will get the answers.I received a copy of this book for a honest review..

Because of who he is Astrid is afraid of letting him in though her wolf wants him. Will he betray her to his brother? Is he really running from the pack also? Find out be reading the book. You wont be sorry you bought it.Even though it was a short story it felt like you really got to know the characters and connect with them. I really am enjoying this authors writing style. There a lot of authors out there today that write short stories but few leave you feeling like it was a complete story despite it's length. Ms. Shaw is one of the few. Great story. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Shaw's books

It explains the types of hooks, yarns, stitches and patterns for crocheting. It also provides a step-by-step guide to create ideal starter projects such as baby blankets and neck warmers. Learning how to crochet, like anything else, takes time, consistency and effort. But with the right tools and knowledge at your finger tips the journey for a new crocheter becomes much easier. I also suggest that you look up how to do the different stitches on youtube as a supplement to this book.

I'm really learning how to do it By Denniger Bolton Okay, I'm a guy and while I do like watching football or a chick flick, all the women in my life, like daughters, significant other, and sister all crochet while we all gather together and watch the tube. I've asked a couple of times for one of them to show me how to crochet and when the do try to get me started, it hasn't seemed to take with me. So, when I saw this book for beginners and the subtitle included the complete tutorial, I was hooked (no pun intended). Now, I'm locked up in a room with this book learning about the handle and the thumb rest and the shaft and the throat and what supplies I'm going to need. I can't wait when we all get back together and I ask my daughter "What do you think about the treble stitch?

There are no pictures to illustrate how the different stitches are made and not every pattern has a picture of the completed project. If you look closely at the cover image, you can see that, while it is a cool idea to have the letters colored by fabric, those are actually knit stitches and *not* crochet. While the author does include a discussion of gauge, which is hugely important, it makes no sense that it is in the middle of a pattern and not in a section on its own. This is not a book that will teach you how to crochet.
