A delightful read By Gayle Carline First of all, Amazon made me fill out a little form asking if there was sex or violence, etc, and I felt compelled to say there was "some violence" even though it's mostly IMPLIED, so don't think this book is all "Die Hard" and rated R.Now then, to my review: I loved this collection of stories. The first one was so delightful and unusual, I had to stop reading long enough to consider the words and dwell on the ideas and savor the whole thing like a good piece of cheesecake. From there, the stories made me laugh out loud, gasp in surprise, and nod my head in agreement. It was a thoroughly wonderful experience.

And Other Brief Diversions is, by turns, heart-breaking, poignant, uplifting, and thought provoking. I enjoyed this latest offering from the diversely talented Jeffrey Michaels, who fulfills his promise of blending fantasy and reality with a dash of the metaphysical thrown in for good measure.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. hand over the clipboard of judgment By quackerjack Though not usually a reader of fantasy/the metaphysical, I found myself gently led into a thought-provoking world where the line between teacher and student does not exist. With humor and beautiful insight, the writer casually invites the reader to explore the ideas of selflessness,redemption, and judgment. (Judgment of others and of self.) There are some new twists on old ideas...what would you do with one wish? What if you refused to make a wish! Will the genie be irritated or charmed? Can you imagine being so content with yourself that you were hard pressed to think up something to wish for? There's a common thread of selflessness through all the stories. How much more we would like ourselves if we could see ourselves from afar-through the eyes of all those we've touched even in a simple way, lines and lines of people smiling and eager to drop pellets of gratefulness into our barrels of self-concept. Hopefully, a smaller line of folks with grievances.This group of essays was so fun. I read it all in one sitting and when done, I liked myself a little more than when I began.
