About the Author Annie Horkan grew up on a large farm nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Fine Art. She is a prolific artist of colorful, illuminating paintings as well as hand-painted canvas rugs called floorcloths. As an artist, she has owned and run three galleries, exhibited in numerous one woman and group shows nationally and internationally and her artwork has been published in various well-known magazines and books. Do yourself and the dog you love a favor that can prolong their life and happiness: read this book By Meg Where do I begin to explain my love for this story, this journey, this inspiration and this genuine footprint on my heart? I empathized with Annie in so many instances that I really felt the heartache and joy she shared on these pages ten-fold. She is a gifted writer; the book flows very naturally and is so much more than a tale about a wonderful dog who impacted someone's life. Annie has the ability to pull someone into her personal experience and then help to guide them to the path that leads this experience to their lives. I have a senior dog, a different breed than a Heeler, but it didn't make a difference. Her prose and examples are remarkably relevant. I was incredibly pleased when she included so much information about homeopathy and how that can help when you have a dog whom you wish to give the best care to, though she's not anti-conventional veterinary medicine either. She also brought up a subject that I wish I could get more people to understand: the food we feed our dogs, and how most owners are actually harming their pets with low-quality, additive-packed brands that are on the shelves of many stores. It's the equivalent of a human eating fast-food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every single day, from the day they were born. She includes recipes, links, and support for those items as well as others. I found this book to be a perfect blend of her love and history with her beloved companion, and information that reiterates my feelings about how I care for my own dog (and offering great information for those who had not heard of these particular things before reading the book). I highly recommend this book, a tribute to Tapa, as well as a dedicated effort to educate and help other pet owners so that Tapa's name can bring good health to other souls. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I've also already purchased a copy as a gift.

The first part is a love story to the very end, but then begins Tapa's legacy of helping other dogs live their lives to the fullest & healthiest via her devoted owner. There is a wealth of information for every dog owner - important things that no one's told you, well-researched and with clickable links to every type of canine help & health site. If you live with a dog, this book will greatly enrich your journey together.
