Newest addition to the Slaver Wars - excellent and highly recommended By SpacedMom Great, great continuing saga of the Alliance and the Human Federation of Worlds!! I loved it just as much as the previous books, and read it all in one sitting. It was too good to interrupt!Once again, the Special Five are attempting things that have never been done before, all to find each other this time. In the four years since their separation, great strides have been made in both galaxies, with a great new threat not just looming on the horizon, but having fingered it's way into the Milky Way Galaxy many years before. This new threat is so devastating, it must be stopped at all costs. And the costs may be too high to pay. Yet, there is still time for the five to find each other and the book is about their attempts at reuniting family, friends, foes, and star fleets.Non stop action. Side stories that predict future engagements and possible story lines. Hints of things to come? Future predictions? Battles like we've come to appreciate by Mr. Weil. Continuing sagas with all the different species involved. What's not to love about this series? If you're new to The Slaver Wars, do yourself a favor and start with the first book, making your way to this one. It's a fantastic read, full of heart racing moments. Can't wait to get the next one in hand!

Weil starts a new story arc in The Slaver Wars universe with this book and it is a good start indeed. The book starts off four years after the events in Endgame (Slaver Wars #7) or immediately after it depending on how you see it. There are two separate threads, one from the perspective of the Alliance in our home galaxy and one from the survivors in the other Galaxy. The two threads do slowly merge together but the first one starts four years later than the other one which starts right after the defeat of the AIs.As usual with a book that starts a new story arc this one is a bit of a stage setter. It introduces the new threat to our good guys, and in general sets up the new scenario. That does not mean it is slow though. The book do of course already have a lot going for it in that the basic universe is already there. What is new is the new enemy, the new galaxy and the new twist the plot is taking. As always with this author there is plenty of nice combat, especially fleet action. There are also preparations, research and of course the actual search for “the lost fleet”. Actually it is fleet(s). I am sure that no one will consider it a spoiler if I write that the fleets did indeed survive the traversal through the vortex. After all, there would not be much of a book if they did not would there? However, the Alliance fleets were of course not the only fleets around at the time of the events in the last book so not only do they find themselves trapped in another galaxy but with some nice friendly (maybe ?) AIs as their fellow intergalactic travelling companions. The book also ties together a few knots concerning the events in the previous Slaver Wars books. In particular as to why the AIs took the course of action that they did. Unfortunately these revelations also brings with them the understanding that the AIs was perhaps not the biggest, “baddest” nastiness around. And thus the stage is set for a new good book series from Raymond L. Weil. As usual the book is well written with plausible science fiction, well done action and the same bunch of likable characters as in the previous books. The only small despicable snake that managed to sneak into my science fiction paradise was the usual nonsense in the form of clueless politicians that managed to stick their ugly head above ground and start to advocate pulling resources from the military. Luckily this was really only mentioned almost in passing and took a very small part of the book but still. All life in the Galaxy was almost made extinct, three of the four of the AI’s proxy races are still out there and these idiots wants to declare the danger over so that they can grab the money? Politicians are like Sauropods, lots of bulk but small heads and I do not like them in books unless they get a well deserved spanking.Anyway, I am already looking forward to the next instalment in this new series.

Just imagine Star Trek Voyager but instead of one ship lost in a distant galaxy a whole fleet. Now imagine Battlestar Galactica, a ruthless enemy willing to hunt you down at no cost. Oh I am not finished yet, now throw in some Stargate Universe stuck in a unknown galaxy trying to figure a way home while searching for help against that ruthless pursuing enemy. That is how good this book is! It is a mixture of everything that is good with science fiction novels. This book title is a little deceptive and does not solely focus on THE LOST FLEET in a distance galaxy but also the characters we love and adore in the previous books in our current galaxy. The struggles of two galaxies to overcome different obstacles is a truly amazing feat in writing considering the length of the novel. To tell you how good it was I stopped a book I was reading at 34% in to it just to read The Lost Fleet. I absolutely love Raymond L. Weil and his style of writing and will continue to look forward to his other books in this series.GET THIS BOOK! For those who have not started reading the series GET ALL THE PREVIOUS BOOKS FIRST. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Horses and Other Voices, by Letitia Sanders

About the Author Letitia Sanders was born and grew up in a small town in Georgia where her pets were among her best friends. She followed her intellectual side to study English and creative writing and became Phi Beta Kappa at Sweet Briar College and Emory University. After the death of her fiancé in Vietnam in 1967, she moved to San Francisco where she began a 23-year career working with computers for IBM. She progressed from programmer on the huge TOPS project, the largest real-time computer system in the world at the time, to becoming an instructor for IBM, traveling around the US, introducing new computers like the PC to IBM personnel and IBM customers. She married Donn Downing, a retired TIME Magazine reporter who had reported from Vietnam and the White House. On weekends she rode Arabian horses in the coastal hills with a friend from whom she bought an Arabian colt named Shaman. Upon retirement from IBM, Letitia completely deserted the computer world to work part-time at the ranch where Shaman was stabled. Her life became centered around horses, and she became a founding member of the California Nevada Arabian Sport Horse Association. Shaman's ability led her to join the US Dressage Foundation. More recently, Letitia decided to exercise the writing talents she had studied in college. In a sense, she found herself back where she started, surrounded by animals and their stories.

Carter Sr. Compelling in triple areas, the author describes her rich transition into retirement; relates a glorious story of her relationship with her horse, and delivers an enlightening personal view of the relationship between humans and equine. Each area is worthy described and on-target from my view from a horse-type family. Disclosure: both my son and granddaughter are highly accomplished equine vets . My top pal during boyhood was a quarterhorse named Speed shared by three brothers as a gift from our Dad who had been a range-riding cowboy in Kansas and Colorado. When Sanders quoted " there was something about the outside of a horse that was good for the inside of man", I related the truth to what I often have witnessed as young Dr. Carter and younger Dr, Arnold practice their critical roles with horses. From generations of horse folks, their practices involve treating lameness at reining events; breeding great horses or performing vital surgeries at Oklahoma Equine Hospital, or meeting needs of fine horses at ranches across the West.I often recall Will Rogers' quote: "I have always felt that the best doctor in the world is the veterinarian. He can't ask his patients what is the matter--he's got to just know." Sanders' book simply offers fresh understanding in other areas where people and horses enrich each other.

By Gail Black I'm a City Girl who married into a family of horsemen and women, and this book brought into crystal-clear focus just how deep the relationship between people and horse can be. My daughter inherited her passion from her dad's side of the family and I'm very proud of her keen interest and love of horses.I loved all the chapters in this little jewel of a book, and even became nervous while reading the Lipizzaner Ladies chapter. I've heard stories of scary situations that happened to family members while hauling a full trailer up steep and narrow grades. Even though I knew the 'ladies' made it all in one piece, Letitia's gifted writing skills keep me on high alert.I really enjoyed the Wanda chapter, (two legged and feathered). Although I've had multiple turkeys on my roof, and even one that got trapped in my chicken yard, I've never taken the time to actually observe their behavior. She compared the three beautiful males to Fancy Bull Fighter type, strutting and showing off their 'Red Capes'.She and Jane Goodall seem to have a lot in common. Both have amazing observational skills and also the ability to put into perfect words what they see and experience. I was not only delighted to read this book, but educated as well.

I like to find a book that is relaxing and fun to read but with a little bit of substance. This was one. What truly made this book so good was the author's natural connection and love for animals that came across in each story. Whatever she was doing, showing or training or managing the ranch, the connection with and care for the various animals came through as her real motivation. If you love animals, this is an awesome read.

Working on my second Bachelors, two kids, dogs to train, Army and all of it's obligations, intended or not. I MADE TIME FOR THE SECRET! Book after book Elizabeth Hunter turns out one fantastic story after another. Actually, to call them stories is an insult. Like taking a vacation just sitting in my recliner. Vivid details, raw emotions, twists and turns, drama without the teenager angst. What more could you ask for?I fell in love with B and Geo. So when she introduced Malachi and Ava I was a little standoffish. I didn't want the Elemental World to end. I didn't want my favorite characters shelved, like so many authors do, so that they can move on. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. Well except that maybe I would like it more than the Elemental World. Yes, I said it.So, without further ado:The Secret should really be made plural. There is so much going on in this story- but don't worry it isn't too much to follow. More like getting the final exam in Chemistry and someone already gave you the answers. Things said before, in passing, now make complete sense. Hunches you had in The Scribe become true but with a twist! What a roller coaster ride Malachi and Ava have been on. When we left them in The Singer, they had just been reunited and it was rough. I think my Kindle was going to crack as I gripped the poor thing and read the anguish, the fear, the loneliness bleeding from the pages. I wanted nothing more than to have them back together, to live a happy normal life and the ability to kill angels, all of them, just so they could live in peace. Leave my Malachi and Ava alone they deserve it! She called him down from Heaven! The Secret picks up from where we left them in The Singer. Spending quality time alone reconnected and trying to understand the new versions of themselves. Malachi is still without his memories, a challenge for them both. Ava because she wants to support him and Malachi because he wants to remember. Both fearing they can't protect their beloved, the stranger next to them. But Ava has also changed. No longer helpless, the Secrets about her origins are slowly revealed. (I'm smiling because I know what happens but I can't tell you~ you'll just have to read it.) So a journey of discovery begins for them both. A hunt to figure out who they were so that they can understand better who they will be. But the more Ava learns the more she becomes afraid. Afraid for the humans, afraid for the angels, afraid for the Irin and Irina. Will she like what she learns? Will Malachi still love her? Will Malachi ever recover his memories? Will they be whole or will we lose one of them again? The balance must be maintained.I will leave you with a teaser, my favorite from the book and typical Malachi and Ava banter that I adore! From The Secret:They started up the stairs. Ava could hear someone snoring loudly.“I feel like it should bother me more that you’re so good at breaking and entering.”“Why?” Apparently, Malachi was no longer concerned with security. His voice was louder. He pulled out the earbud and tucked it in a small pocket of the vest he was wearing. “I’ve been doing this kind of thing for three hundred years. Trust me, it’s a lot less messy than it used to be. I don’t break and enter for personal gain. It’s just a useful life skill.”“Useful life skills are starting a campfire or… knowing how to tie really good knots.”“I know how to do those things, too.” He tugged her close and leaned down to her ear. “Give me one weekend without a world-changing revelations,” he whispered, “and I’ll show you my knot-tying skills.”The color rushed to her face. “Bad man. Very bad man.”He chuckled. “You wouldn’t be saying that by the end of the weekend.”

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Not disappointed, but not happy either *Minor spoilers* By Tabby1249 In book one, I fell hard for Ava and Malachi. Their story was engrossing, deeply romantic and horribly heartbreaking. Book two brought Ava and Malachi back together and we were privileged to see how they came to know and learn to be with one another again in a journey that was hard to witness but felt realistic and rewarding. Book two also provided more world development with increased information about the Scribes, the Irina and the Grigori as well as the omniscient Archangels of the Fallen and the Forgiven. Book three continues with all these same groups but adds in the Grigora, the female children of the Fallen with their accompanying issues and complications, the return of the Irina to the council in Vienna, the politics associated with that and a look at some of the individuals of this group, a couple of surprising new family members for Ava and, finally, a passel of crazed young children who figure large in the final showdown and provide Malachi's next focus of anguish. Whew...there were times that I felt like I needed a playbook just to keep up with everyone. This book felt heavy and I found myself getting bogged down in the relationships between the various groups. I've read many richly detailed books in the past but the increased number of characters, increasingly complex intrigue and globe-trotting to one city after another in The Secret made for laborious reading from time to time. That said, once the big showdown was complete, the ending felt a bit rushed and anticlimactic. I could almost feel the author's desire to be finished with this story.Bottom line: there is no doubt that Ms. Hunter is a gifted writer with a deeply complex imagination. That said, the couple I fell in love with seemed to get lost in the intricacies of the plotting. I won't say I was disappointed by the end of their story, but I also won't say that I was thrilled by it.

By Killian Mcrae Few are the authors in this day and age who can pull off such a satisfying, complete, and beautifully written series that both delivers on everything you were waiting for, and still leaves you wanting more.THE SECRET is the divine completion of the Irin Chronicles trilogy. As always, what makes Hunter's characters so endearing is how realistic they are (even if they are mythical creatures). Just because Ava and Malachi have overcome the boundaries of Heaven, Ava having haphazardly brought Malachi back from the dead, their relationship and course is not smooth. There are still a number of issues they have to work out that ring true to any long-term relationship: what's the vision of their future, what are their goals, will they have a family? And why is Ava the way she is? How are there Irina in the world that remain unknown to the Irin? Could there be more, and where would they look?A trip to visit Ava's father only creates more questions than it answers. In Jasper, we find a tortured soul, one who clearly loves his daughter and yet, finds his own existence a daily challenge. When Malachi and Ava glean just enough information to lead them to the next clue about Ava's ancestry, they learn of the secret, one that angels war to protect and which could either cost or ensure the survival of the Irin. What follows is an unraveling of truth that the reader could have never seen coming, and yet, makes perfect sense in hindsight. Through a careful weaving of storylines and characters, Hunter satiates her readers, leading them through the inner workings of Irin society, its Vienna Council, and in the process, dismantling all our preconceived notions about what we thought MUST be true. This is a total rollercoaster of a read, but one that makes you want to run right back into the queue and do it all over again. Highly recommended to all readers of urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

It talks about the color used for the patterns but the book is printed in black and white. This book is not worth the money ( regardless used or new) this should be a freebie!

Only photos of the finished product f By Amazon Customer This book was very disappointing. There were no close up photos of the stitches to see what they were supposed to look like. Only photos of the finished product from too far away to see the actual stitches are shown. A waste of money. Better to watch YouTube.

Reenactments from My Heart: Spiritual and Supernatural Civil War Fiction and Poetry, by Shirl Knobloch

From the Author I told myself I would NEVER write a Civil War book.   I told my family I would NEVER write a Civil War book.   Today, my fourth book became available......fictional stories of the Civil War. I wanted to explain what this book is about.   It is not a book about military details, about who led which regiment, who suffered the most casualties, or reasons for the war.   I have seen far more knowledgeable historians criticized by readers with different opinions on which rifle was carried, which button on a uniform was worn, toward which direction soldiers retreated. This is a book about people, the emotions of people.   Love, fear, grief,  all shared by mothers, fathers, siblings, wives, children and soldiers, themselves. Beneath whatever uniform, whatever button, whatever rifle or flag was carried into battle, beat the same heart, with the same longing to survive the horrors of war, see homes again, and kiss loved ones once again. These are my stories; I hope they touch your hearts as well.Shirl Knobloch

About the Author Shirl Knobloch works as an artist and intuitive animal communicator. She and her house full of feathered and furry beings divide their time between a New Jersey suburb and her farmhouse in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Beautifully written .. By Lynda In this latest offering, the author has created a poignant, fictional journey into the Civil War era. This book is not a political statement. There is no judgement. Rather, a collection of gently written stories conveying the emotions of a highly charged era in history. Your heart aches for the casualties, sons, husbands and fathers, lost to war. It aches for the tortured souls that are left behind to cope with the emptiness. There is a melancholy tone thruout the book which lends credibility to her story telling. The harsh realities of war are written about with sensitivity and compassion, making her characters all the more memorable.. The author has packed a lot of emotions into this short collection of stories. She has even introduced a few unlikely heroes. Pet dogs and even a little rat who happily followed their humans into war. Their enduring loyalty will move you to tears.Shirl makes her home on the hallowed ground of Gettysburg, in a farmhouse of historical designation. The energy there has certainly served as inspiration for this latest book. I doubt you will soon forget her characters, many of which will leave you misty eyed. Along with her stories, the poetry is amazing..Take an afternoon and relax with this book. I can guarantee, it will be time well spent. Written with compassion, yet realistically, this is her best book to date.Well done my friend!

I was so drawn into the beautifully haunting stories that I could not put it down. Thank you, Shirl, for sharing your stories, poems, and artwork. I was especially drawn to the picture of Sallie and the Irish Wolfhound. Civil War Sallie reminds me of my Molly, a little bull terrier mix, who adopted us years ago. Shirl's book is a treasure to be experienced and revisited time after time.

By Janet DiGilio Shirl has a wonderful way of writing beautiful stories about the Civil War Era and I also enjoyed reading her poetry as well. As I was reading them, I was drawn back in time and I could sense and feel the emotions being conveyed. Stories written that will touch your heart as they did mine....

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. ever hear tell of a shoggoth? By Paul F. Brooks Howard Philip Lovecraft (1890-1937) did not have a high regard for his novelette "Shadow Over Innsmouth". To paraphrase from the Wikipedia: Lovecraft wrote to August Derleth that the story "has all the defects I deplore especially in point of style, where hackneyed phrases & rhythms have crept in despite all precautions.... No I don't intend to offer 'The Shadow over Innsmouth' for publication, for it would stand no chance of acceptance". It was eventually published as a slim book with a run of 200 copies. The only book of Lovecraft's fiction distributed during his lifetime. August Derleth called The Shadow Over Innsmouth " a dark, brooding story, typical of Lovecraft at his best."Not withstanding Lovercraft's oppinion this reader believes that the "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" to be a spendid example of HPL's fictional writings and exhibits many of the compelling theams used in his other works.I will attempt a very abbreviated summary of the plot with no spoilers. Our narrator, who is never named, undertakes a "tour of New England for sightseeing, antiquarian and genealogical - and had planned to go to Newburyport and on to Arkham whence my mother's family was derived". He takes a dilapidated old bus that makes the Newburyport - Innsmouth - Arkham run only to have it break down in Arkham stranding him for the night. The back-story of strangeness and horrors in Arkham are conveyed to the narrator by three individuals: the curator at the Newburyport Historical Society, a clerk in the First National (grocery) Store in Innsmouth and by the most intriguing character in the story 96 year old Zadok Allen, town drunkard. The narrator escaped Innsmouth and capture by the very peculiar inhabitants with the help of a map given to him by the store clerk.I suspect readers new to Lovecraft will finds this story more than mildly confusing what with all the unexplained terms, Lovercraft's over the top descriptions of terror and the maze like journey thought Innsmouth's many streets.Lovecraft peppers his story with terms that beg a description but none are giving. We encounter the old topper Zadok Allen and his mouths "R'lyeh wgah-nagl fhtaga" with no explanation and asks his listener if "ever hear tell of shoggoth?' A what, you say. The narration visits Miskatonic University in Arkham. This town and school show up in several other stories but you would not know it from this tale. Several references are made to the "Esoteric Order of Dagon". Hmmm sounds very creepy. Fan of HPL relish these links to other stories but new readers be warned.Lovecraft had a way with words and used them, overused some would say, to convey the atmosphere of dread or creepiness he was attempting. For example: "It took no excessive sensitiveness to beauty to make me literally gasp at the strange, unearthly splendor of the alien, opulent phantasy of the tiara...the pattern on the piece hinted of remote secrets and unimaginable abyss in time and space". Innsmouth is a "Festering city of death and decay". Zadok lays it on thick also "Thar's whar it all begun-the cursed place of all wickedness where the deep water starts. Gates o' hell-sheer drop daown to a bottom no saoudin' line kin tech." and "Yew want to know what the reel horror is, hey? Wal, it's this- it ain't what thern fish devils haz done, but it's what they're a-goin' to do! They're a-bringin' things up aout o' whar they come from into the taown....ever hear tell of a shoggoth?" My favorite is "Haow'd ye like to be livin' in a taown like this, with everthing a-rottin' an' dyin' boarded up monsters crawlin' an' bleatin' an' barkin' an hoppin' aroun' black cellars and attics every where ye turn?" Whew what a place!Well, it does not take much common sense to know that Innsmouth is no place to be if the fish-frog guys are after you so take out your map and make tracks. Lovecraft knew where he was going but I could never figure out his directions, for example: "At Bates Street I drew into a yawing vestibule...was soon on my way again approaching where Eliot Street crossed Washington at the intersection of South." Later the directions are, well, confusing " I edged around into Babson which crossed Federal...noised continued on Washington...darted around the corner into Lafayette Street and crossed Eliot...my greatest dread was re-crossing South Street" and on and on.If you want to "dig in' to this story, and I hope you do, get a map of the fictional town of Innsmouth. Do a search on the internet, find it and print it out. Now it all makes sense. Now about those mysterious terms shoggoth, Dagon, R'lyeh wgah-nagl fhtaga and ol' Miskatonic U. Well, you don't need to know about them to just enjoy the story unless, of course, you just have to know...well that's what Google is for!Ok, "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn", which translates as "In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming. Is it time to read another Lovecraft story?Added 03-14-2011There is another level of interest concerning this story that may appeal to the curiosity of some readers. Thoughout the text Lovecraft incorporated numerous real place and family names from Essex County in Massachusetts; in addition there are subtle references to other Lovecraft stories. If you are intrigued by this tale and motivated to fill your cranium with a lot of useless but interesting bits of trivia read the Necronomicon Press edition of the illustrated and annotated "The Shadow over Innsmouth". The book contains 150 detailed footnotes, a 15 pages introduction, a discarded draft of the story and 5 full-page illustrations by Jason Eckhardt. The two paperback editions of this title (1994,97) have long been out of print but copies are available used. Oh yes, I was raised in Essex County and have visited many of the towns he enjoyed visiting and writing about.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Haunting tale like only Lovecraft can bring! By Amazon Customer I don't really even know how to begin to describe this book. To some it may seem a little dry and long winded, but I found Lovecraft's description of the dilapidated town of Innsmouth to be captivating and he can somehow make things seem horrifying that don't really seem all that scary if you try to describe it to a friend. If you like a haunting story with a great deal of mystery and intrigue behind it, this is the book for you!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. They just don't write them like they used to... By Melissa H.P. Lovecraft weaves a tale that is almost romantic... I saw "Dagon" as a teenager-obsessed with horror movies-and the story always stuck out because you almost believe it could be true. I read the Kindle edition as an adult and even though it's not close to the movie, this book is probably one of my favorite classics. A must read for any horror fan.

The Galactics arrived with their Battle Fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way. In DEATH WORLD, unknown aliens attack Earth. Their planet is uncharted, mysteriously having avoided detection for centuries. It's a world packed with the most vicious aliens humanity has yet to encounter. James McGill is on the scene when the war comes home, and aliens strike a devastating blow. Bent on revenge, Legion Varus chases the raiders to the stars and discovers a growing alien menace. A cancerous species has invaded our region of the galaxy and must be dealt with. McGill learns why the Cephalopod Kingdom has yet to attack Earth and what's happening behind the scenes in the Core Worlds. Throughout, he upholds his unique sense of right, wrong and honor. DEATH WORLD is a military science fiction novel by bestselling author B. V. Larson.

Some of the summaries of the books seem a little odd to me, but when I read the book, I find that the fast paced writing style and pure imagination he brings to his writing brings everything to life. I HIGHLY recommend any of his books to all Science Fiction and/or fast paced action book fans. The Good:James McGill is the same unorthodox soldier he has always been. Thinking outside the box and bucking the chain of command when it suits him gets him results and keeps him in the dog house with his superiors. A tragedy towards the beginning of the book weighs on him throughout the story and adds a new determination for him to fight Earth's enemies. The Bad:A handful of spelling errors or sentences that seemed like followed something edited out are my only complaints. "Don't call me sir, I work for a living" followed by a sentence where the other character didn't call him sir as an example. Nothing serious enough to warrant loss of stars or cause me to enjoy the book any less than I did (which was a lot). The Ugly:I get every B.V. Larson book that comes out almost immediately and can't put it down. Within days, I'm finished and wishing I had more of his work to read. The only ugly thing is the wait I have until there's more to read.If you've read the other books in this series, read this one immediately. If you have not read anything in this series yet, get the first one and I promise you will enjoy them all!

A solid sequel. Better than the last, about average for the series (which is very good). Most importantly, many of what I consider to be the rough edges in past books were worked out in this book. By the points:-McGill learns/experiences more about leadership-McGill's antics are getting a lot more refined in the telling and perspective now (less naive Gomer Pyle in space)-A bigger glimpse at the universe, the squids, and introduction to the Wur (not a spoiler)-There wasn't really any cool new tech or tactic introduced like Mechs in the last episode-McGill's lovelife was handled quite possibly the best of all books to date-A lot of the awkwardness with Turov was adjusted and handled much better this time around-The end was in a pretty decent place-The events/outcomes at McGill's hands, while significant, didn't flip all of humanity's future upside down like in previous books-The second string characters (McGill's fellow troops) get some nice development and his squad is starting to develop a personality of its own-The way the politics were handled seemed the best of all books, it was engaging and much more realistic-Very few typos-Consistently fast-pacedI get the feeling this was a bridge/setup story laying the groundwork for a much higher impact book to follow. While the story was excellent, it seems to me that the events were much less critical than in previous books. The author didn't slouch on the telling though. All in all a great story. Only complaint would be the sequel isn't out yet. I bet it will blow our space boots off.

His physical success with women is admirable, but he can't seem to handle the emotional side very well. His unconventional tactics and thinking frequently save the day and keep him from getting permed. A slow crawl up the ladder of command has been painful but we'll deserved. I believe a visit to Forgotten World, filled with abandoned but viable advanced Galactic tech, would be an interesting episode. Using the Galactic key, the tech would give the humans a fighting chance against the Cephalopods, the Galactics, and any other baddies BV can come up with. Go Legion Varus!

WAR? DEATH AND DESTRUCTION? VIOLENCE, HATRED, INEXPRESSIBLE GRIEF? PEOPLES PITTED AGAINST EACH OTHER, TO THE DEATH? WHY ON EARTH SHOULD I WANT TO READ ABOUT IT? THERE'S ENOUGH IN THE MEDIA EVERY DAY, SURELY? YES: BUT THIS IS DIFFERENT. The stories in this Anthology aim to give a vivid insight, through a fascinating mixture of history, reminiscence and fiction, into life during WWII: for those at the front, those left behind, the young at school, the old in the twilight of their years, parents, lovers, spouses, families, colleagues; Britons, Germans, Irish, Kenyans, French, eastern Europeans and Americans (plus the odd 'undesirable alien'!). These pages see householders struggling to maintain a semblance of normality; young men reluctant to volunteer; soldiers determined to win; acts of generosity, acts of cowardice. In these pages, there is violence - impossible to avoid in an Anthology dedicated to the memory of war - but there is also humour and romance, suspense and emotion, heroism and daring. Even the paranormal puts in an appearance (as one might say). The action is set variously in France, Britain, Eire, Kenya, Russia, Poland ... You are guaranteed hours of stimulation, enjoyment and fruitful relaxation with a book devoted to one of the defining events of our times. STARE INTO THE PAST WITH THE EYES OF THOSE GRIPPED BY ITS DRAMA. All the stories have been especially written for this Anthology by writers experienced in their field. Pneuma Springs is proud to present it to commemorate seventy years after the end of hostilities. Contributors: Karl Brockmann, Annie Coyle Martin, Julius Falconer, Peter Good, Neal James Andrew Malloy, Steve Morris, Neil Morton, Ron Ooms, Chris Pownall, Derek Rosser, Avril Saunders, Derek Smith, Louise Wilkinson

Treachery and deception are all but fair game in love and war By MA An Anthology of world war II, this book has compiled short stories written by various writers. As a work of fiction, the stories told here are almost too realistic, as though the writers were there fighting and witnessing the war and the situations to the lead up to it. Each story deals with the trauma of the of the war and the politics which uphold vividly the ugly side of the war. Treachery and deception are all but fair game in love and war. And this is the theme that binds all the stories in this anthology.
