Peters Great reality check for anyone considering building, or an extensive remodel. I have done 8 remodels and bought this book because I am considering building from scratch for the first time. Alex hit the nail right on the head with all of his observations. I believe that his background in mental health helped him frame his discussion in a way that no real estate professional ever could. He lays out the process, the pitfalls and all of the details involved right down to the choice of Schluter! If reading his lists of the decisions that are required to be made makes you break out in hives, you will immediately know that building is not for you. On the other hand, if you (like me) revel in complexity, then you will be inspired to take a leap of faith. Either way, the cost of this book is much cheaper than the years of therapy that could result from making an uninformed decision to build!
