2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An amazing debut! By Book Enthusiast I don't think I've ever waited so long for a book to be released as I did this one. BUT...it was WELL worth the wait. This is a book I can easily re-read time and time again. I loved these characters immediately and by the end of the story, I loved them deeply. I could read about them forever, as they have become real in my heart and in my mind. The story was EXTREMELY exciting. The audience appeal would definitely be great for those who loved the Sookie Stackhouse series, but who found Sookie utterly irritating, because this book is like those, only better because it doesn't have an annoying as .... lead character ;) But all the action, adventure, romance, fantasy can be found between these pages, along with a completely unique story line. The novel is well structured and the editing is easily some of the best I have found in indie fiction. I can't wait to read more from this author, hopefully within this series! This is DEFINITELY an author to watch!

Engler I received a free advanced reading copy in exchange for my review.I wasn't really sure what to expect from this novel. It's a mix of romance and fantasy, but it's not a paranormal romance novel.mild-spoiler summary: the first 70% of the novel is casually paced, focusing on her relationship with her grandfather, her fiancee, and her best friends. The last 30% is the main fantasy portion.I would have enjoyed it more if the secrets were revealed throughout the novel instead of all at once. There were just a lot of little scenes that didn't contribute much to the novel, probably for character building. I think it would have improved if the author removed the fiancee altogether. I might just be biased since i dislike jealous boyfriends for personal reasons, but i definitely liked Allie less because of it. Despite the title "The Watcher's Daughter", we see very little of the father and much more of the grandfather, whose role is left unexplained. While the ending isn't a cliff-hanger, the author ends the novel with more questions than answers.*** Spoilers ahead:I felt the climax wasn't very well written. She's passed out for most of the action, then suddenly she meets the head Vampire who speaks to her personally. Seems a bit odd he'd expose himself like that. Then they're caught off-guard (how did this happen?) by 13 vampires, including the queen's number 1 man, but they didn't bring an army to actually win the fight? Also, her best friend and future-boyfriend both happen to be working for him? That would be a twist of fate, but fate didn't seem to be a strong theme in the novel.

It kept me absorbed in the story, turning the page to find out what happened next. Allie is a kick-ass heroine, but certainly not perfect, struggling with weaknesses and uncertainties just like all of us. Ben is definitely my new book boyfriend. The world the author weaves is sharp and vivid, filled with characters I felt like I knew well by the time I reached the end. With a strong story line, lots of action and well-rounded characters, The Watcher's Daughter earned five stars from me, and I can't wait to read the next book in this new series.
