1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Confusing.... By Michael Maness While I have read and enjoyed all the Alamo books, I am disappointed in this one. It has all of the regular characters spread out and regrouping with old ones in a confusing political plot where everyone seems to be the bad guy. No one seems to know what's going on and political intrigue tends to be the order of the day. Further, the battles are not well thought out and are inconclusive. I gave this a generous three stars, but with the editing mistakes was tempted to give it a two. We can only hope that the next book is better thought out and the premise is tightly written....

Or perhaps exactly the same, in that it still follows the Alamo crew, but this time they are split up, each off on their own adventure and the story jumps in between them as their threads start to intersect. Some Alamo books I really enjoyed, others were way too over the top, and this one fell somewhere in between. It did seem more grounded than other entries, but the story seemed to get away from the author a little bit. There was just too much going on at some points, some of it hard to swallow. There is corruption and incompetence and coups and very little actual naval combat. As always this story is less naval sci fi and a little more character driven drama. If you want hard boiled or realistic military sci fi this isn't for you... this is just some fun light travels of a group of people that happens to take place in space. I wish some of the world building was a little tighter and more believable but still it was fun. Its probably about a 4 hour reading. It also felt a little more unfinished than other novels, but I guess thats probably about par for the course for this series. As another reviewer pointed out, there are some errors but nothing so drastic or terrible like some other books out there. Also the alamo plays almost no role at all--It really should have been a side series or the start of something new maybe.

Frankly, the only thing I dislike about this series is that the stories are so addictive I read through them in hours, then have to wait months for the next one.The characters are compelling enough that you feel like they are old friends, and every new book is a reunion. The stories are great with plenty of plot twists that eventually weave into a sophisticated whole without being too convoluted to follow. The intrigue is as real and frustrating as watching politics play out on the evening news.I can't see myself ever tiring of this series. Please keep them coming!!
