The beginning was a little slow but it's necessary to explain the setting. I got lost when the author was explaining the military formations and jargon but knowing them isn't necessary to understand the story. The way that the author writes, it makes you want to keep reading until the end! When the story was building up to the climax, I could visualize what exactly was going on. Readers will be rooting for McDonnell throughout the story. I also liked how the author portrayed the other side. Overall, it's a good short story to pass time by and it does a very good job at explaining the conflict when making decisions. I'll definitely re-read this story again!

Stay the Course presents an emotional and heart pounding glimpse into a soldier's battlefield, with well-developed characters that carry the story forward through vivid battle depictions that make you feel as if you are in the heart of the fight yourself. I don't want to give away too much of the book - suffice to say that you will not be disappointed. The writing is spectacular and heartfelt with a message of hope, loyalty, and deep emotion. I fell it teaches the reader that not all scars left by war are physical.
