A great collection of fun and inspirational fables By michael naylor I previously read Slumberland by Tygo lee and really enjoyed the book so I thought I would look at another of his books. I came across Fanciful and liked the idea of a book of fables so I decided to read this one next. Each of the stories is brilliant, well written and in one way or another inspirational as a good fable should be. Fables should be fun, a little fantastical and in one way or another teach you something. Tygo Lee has ticked every box with this book.Although I enjoyed all of the fables my favorite was by far Perfectly Happy about a cat named searcher who spends his time "perfecting perfection". He spends his days trying to do everything a little better than the day before in an effort to constantly better himself which is a noble quest in many ways. One day he meets a young kitten who amongst other things asks him what makes him happy, and he finds he does not know. He has spent his life finding perfection but does not feel truly happy although he is proud of his accomplishments. This kitten instead simply enjoys the moment and finds happiness all around him. After brooding for a few days, he decides to go and find a wise old cat to find out what makes him happy as he himself does not know. This is an excellent story that everyone can relate too in one way regardless of whether you are the perfectionist type or the fun loving carefree type. It also reminded me of my own 2 cats who are complete opposites of each other and really resemble the 2 main cats in this story in many ways.Overall Fanciful is an excellent book full of fun and inspirational short stories that are enjoyable to read yet teach you an important lesson at the same time.

By Kevin Lintner Fanciful is a delightful collection of inspirational fantasy stories designed to touch your heart while expanding your mind. All of the stories in this volume are fables each with a different meaning and all written in such a way that you don't feel like the author is trying to force their beliefs down your throat. Some of the short stories are light-hearted, like the deliriously funny New Found Friends, in which a whimsical and inquisitive kitty crosses path with a wise yet curmudgeonly tree who become close friends after a laugh out loud conversation. This was a very important story to me because it portrays the importance of asking questions, even though sometimes it can be annoying to others. One learns by asking questions while shrugging off the encultured beliefs we are taught in hopes of seeing thing from all sides. This is called critical thinking and it is something every human being needs to learn in hopes of saving ourselves from mental imprisonment. My other favorite tale is "If We Could Turn Back Time" an elegiac tale where youth has its first encounter with death and is shaken to its very core. The story stresses how important it is to say what we have to say while we still have time to say it because we never know when the person we need to thank or we need to tell them how much we appreciate them will be taken from us. I highly recommend this to readers of all ages especially if you need a little inspiration to make it through your day.

Fanciful represents a collection of fables that are not only enthralling to read but also serve as valuable life lessons that trigger self-reflection throughout the book.His style of writing and the skill with which he effectively connects with the reader through his enchanting story-telling is admirable. Lee creates this magical yet realistic world full of valuable life lessons. Fanciful has an element of uniqueness that makes it stand out from all other books out there. The characters are very interesting, easily lovable and most importantly, the readers will find themselves connecting with certain ones on a personal level. Lee weaves fun, charm, and humor into his tales. You will find yourself reflecting upon the way you've chosen to live your life and by the end of the book, you'll find yourself eagerly turning to another book of Lee's to read. Fanciful is the first book I've read by the author and I look forward to reading his other books, which I believe will be just as phenomenal! I would recommend this book to anyone who appreciates a fun and witty read full of important life values.
