OK, let me get myself together.I really like this book. It was a whole new twist of shifters and the like - and you KNOW I love paranormal romance :)Sophia was an interesting character. At first you think she is going to be this one-dimensional pure-as-the-drive-snow heroine that will eventually bore you and nothing she does can take you by surprise. Yeah, you'll think that, and you'll be WRONG. Ms. Blevins lulls you into a false sense of security with Sophia. Do NOT underestimate the Swan Princess - you have been warned. This chick (see what I did there lol) can be, well, I don't want to give it away so let's go with strong-willed. While the story line and conflicts are not overly surprising, I was certainly taken aback at some of Sophia’s reactions to antagonists.Aaron is a whole 'nother breed of shifter. He is possessive and protective (my two favorite traits in a hero)of his Sophia. A great aspect of Aaron’s character is his honesty. He is as upfront with Sophia as he can be while she is under the care of her father. He is also honest with her from the beginning once she has escaped and made her way to Aaron for safety. Aaron's struggle to find balance regarding the way he interacts with Sophia is heart-warming. He doesn't want to mold her into his puppet; he wasn't to help her really come into her own as a leader. But at the same time he wants her to give herself fully to him in private. Mr. Aaron Drake, teacher-extraordinaire, is not only well versed in political play, but also erotic. Examples of teaching aides: butterfly vibrator (check), flogger (check), spankings (check). The fact that Aaron watched Sophia grow up, well, that was kinda weird for me, but I could let it go. The explanation of the growth of and development of their feelings allowed me to move on from my initial hesitation. The writing was very descriptive, gruesome in some parts even. The world created by Ms. Blevins is well thought out and painted for the reader’s appreciation. Every scene is written so the reader is easily able to put themselves either in the character’s place or as a fly on the wall. How you want to place yourself in a scene will really depend on the reader. The only thing I found difficult to muddle through was the flip-flopping between a very clinical and eloquent style of writing to hot-as-sin cuss-filled craziness. Betcha wanna read it now, huh?

By Stacey is Sassy (Stacey B-Reviews) I was in the mood for a good paranormal and put the call out to my friends. Candace Blevins heard the call and gifted me a copy of The Dragon King. Thanks Candace my lovely it definitely was interesting.Aaron, the Dragon King, has been a tutor and educator to the Swan Princess, Sophia, since she was a baby. He plays a vital role in her understanding of their culture and rules. Sophia has lived a very sheltered existence with her father putting her in a castle that was more like a cage. The Swan King, Raul, lost his wife when she was murdered and decided he couldn’t face it if anything happened to Sophia. When her father plans to marry Sophia off to the horrible Cyrano, she decides that escape is the better option. She heads straight to Aaron knowing that he will protect her.I liked seeing Sophia and Aaron’s love for each other grow and develop. It is obvious that Aaron only wants Sophia, but it takes a while for Sophia to trust him. She forms some wonderful friendships in the people that she meets and I loved watching Sophia mature and take on her role as Queen. The story is full of action and adventure. We get to meet shifters including owls, eagles, hawks, rabbits (turns out they do live up to their name when it comes to sex) and the usual lions, leopards, tigers and wolves. Vampires and Faerie also play a pivotal role in getting Sophia placed as Queen to the swans. There were things that annoyed me and made me a little uncomfortable in this story. My main issue was Aaron’s past conquests. I know he is thousands of years old and never been mated, but Sophia was confronted by numerous ex-lovers and some of them were people close to her. I don’t think Aaron handled it well. Secondly, the scene when Sophia changes to a swan was absolutely gruesome. They do not just change like in other paranormal stories I’ve read, it is graphically explained what she must do to her skin to transform. The explanations were “original” but for the first time in any reading of a paranormal, I was bloody glad I wasn’t one. There were also a few BDSM scenes with humiliation, pain and exhibitionism. I don’t mind an erotic read, but I’m not a huge fan of humiliation as part of it.I did enjoy their love story and their fight to gain and hold their place as King and Queen of the Dragons and Swans. My overall enjoyment was reduced by the way Aaron’s previous relationships were portrayed and explained. I did not like that Sophia met Aaron’s previous lovers and was exposed to what sort of “play” he got up to…especially that he had been dominated. Those things should have been explained in private so she could deal with it without an audience. The Dragon King was an interesting story and I have no hesitations on reading more of Candace Blevins paranormal world. This review and more can be found at http://edgyreviews.com/

Great Read Prefect Book ready for SYFY Series By shweetsandi This is the first time I have ever written a review in a word document before posting it on Amazon to make sure I wrote exactly how I felt about a book. The Dragon King is the second book I have read from Candace Belvins and it is totally different from the first book I read of hers. That in itself surprised and pleased me. It is rare to find an author who can write so differently, yet very good.I don’t like to read reviews that give the story away s I won’t do that in my review. I will say that this book is so well told that all I could do is sit and read and while I was reading I could see it in my mind’s eye on SYFY as a series. Aaron is a one of kind paranormal who you can’t help but fall in love with at the same time as you both fear him. i mean I am thinking man I would love to bow at his feet and hand him a flogger.Sophia is the swan princess “locked in the tower” by her father the king but she is not waiting for what he has planned for her. Nope she makes her own destiny. I have not read books in this series prior to this one, and in fact if I had not read other reviews I would have not even known there were other books before this one. Candace Blevins tells this story so well you don’t feel that you have missed anything by not reading other books before this one (although you bet ya I will be getting them now). This book is full of hot and steamy scenes and other times loving romance. You will also find times you want to reach into the pages of your reader (kindle) and just grab Raul and the Eagle King and others by their throats and swing them around until they are road kill, but that’s okay we’ll let Mabel or Aaron take care of them.I love seeing two very strong characters Male and Female who love each other and show such strength and courage. One of the things that I liked about this book is how Aaron helped Sophia find her “voice” and allowed her to rule and switch roles. This book is not simply a shifter or paranormal book or even a romance book. This book touches on so many things that are in the public’s eye right now but in a different fashion. This is one book I know I will be re-reading time again. Like a good naughty fairy tale.I look forward to reading more from Candace Blevins and of course I need to go back and get caught up on the books before The Dragon King. I highly recommend this book as well as all her books.
