Its colleges, picturesque limestone buildings, homes, churches, trolleys, and annual Winfield Chautauqua Assemblies were ideal subjects for the picture postcards popular at the time. These cards, which provided a window to the world of Winfield, now provide a view of its past. The trolley tracks are gone, and Chautauquas have given way to the Walnut Valley Festival, but much remains of the glory that was Winfield.

About the Author Beverley Olson Buller was born and raised in Winfield and is a longtime educator with interests in history and childrens literature. She has authored two biographies for young readers that were recognized by the Kansas Notable Books List. Postcards in this book appear courtesy of Bullers mother, who was an avid collector.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Winfield, Kansas, A Loving Tribute By Marilyn Morris I grew up in Winfield, Kansas, and am therefore a little prejudiced. It is a wonderful town to raise a family and I'm very grateful for my time there. One of the featured postcards was of my grandfather throwing live turkeys from the top of the building housing his furniture & undertaking business in 1915. Winfield was/is a wonderful town. It was for the most part free of the prejudices of most of the country in the 1950s, 60s and beyond. The teachers and schools were superior and provided the children with an education it would be difficult to duplicate anywhere in the country. They had a summer recreation program that enabled the children to continue learning in a fun and friendly environment with lessons in swimming, tennis, sewing and many other areas. I realize you wanted a review of the book, but it's hard to not make it a review of the town as well. The book is great! I had no Idea that Mrs. Olson had been collecting the antique postcards all those many years ago. They are very good at depicting the Winfield that I remember. I believe that Beverly did a wonderful job putting the postcards together and it is a great tribute to her parents.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet the author of this book and she signed & stamped my copy. Since losing it and getting a replacement, she has agreed to do the same thing to this copy next time she is in my town. Wonderful pictorial history of Winfield, Kansas.
