About the Author David Gerrold was barely out of his teens when he wrote the script "The Trouble With Tribbles" for the classic television series "Star Trek". Nominated for a Hugo Award, it was listed by "Playboy" magazine as one of the 50 Greatest Television Episodes of All Time. And in a 1997 FOX TV special it ranked as the most popular science fiction episode on television of all time. He has written dozens of novels and twice has been nominated for both the Hugo and the Nebula awards. His novelette "The Martian Child" won the SF triple crown: the Hugo Award, the Nebula Award, and the Locus Readers Poll as Best Novelette. In addition to novel writing, he has written television scripts for "Babylon 5", "Tales from the Darkside", and "The Twilight Zone". He served as a story editor/producer for the first season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation". A frequent guest at SF conventions here and in Europe, he began a charity in 1988 in which money earned from charging one dollar for autographs -- plus profits from the sale of other SF memorabilia -- is donated to AIDS Project Los Angeles.

Lucarelli David Gerrold understands how things work and how people work and that makes him very good at telling compelling stories. I'd say the the understanding of how people work comes from all those EST classes he took back in the day, but I suspect it only enhanced his already insightful nature. Entanglements and Terrors is a sampler platter of the many different types of compelling stories Gerrold can tell. Monsieur is the beginning of a novel about a writer who meets a vampire. It's fairly well worn territory, (most notably by Anne Rice in Interview with a Vampire) but it is a testimony to Gerrold's craft that the reader is left wanting more. The Thing in the Backyard and Entanglements both feature the character of Dan Goodman. In these amusingly lighthearted yarns, Goodman manages to make himself a living human irritant to the first person narrator. The first tale results in an unwanted guest, and the second in the contemplation of the infinite roads not travelled. The Great Pan American Airship Mystery... is a steam punk (or rather helium punk) period imagining of a great celebrity laden mega dirigible's maiden voyage in which Gerrold manages to channel the bon mots and witticism's of Dorothy Parker in a spot on manner. Finding Monstro is a science fiction story that points out the functioning of a mono-sexual society is one of the great theoretical unknowns. The Old Science Fiction Writer is the story of a grandfather telling his grandson about what life was like before The Big Think solved all of our problems, or did it? The Bag Lady tells of a mentally ill homeless woman who also happens to be a superhero. The collection ends with an 11 chapter preview of A Method For Madness Book Five in The War Against The Chtorr. With its thrillingly cinematic action sequences and disturbing insectoid monsters, its the kind of science fiction I'd love to see Ridley Scott take a crack at adapting into a film. Gerrold's collection of stories runs the scope from big to small in scale, but he does what the best science fiction writers do: he consistently makes you think, even as he makes you turn the page.

Get Entangled with David Gerrold By Amazon Customer Entanglements and Terrors is a collection of short stories exploring everything from vampires to quantum empathizers. Gerrold writes with wit and humor while he gives the reader 7 views into his active imagination. He explores human suffering, human sacrifice for the sake of others, sexual roles and much more. "Monsieur" is a modern view of vampires as an apex predator with humanity as prey. "The Thing in the Back Yard" and "Entanglements" are approximately autobiographical and kept me smiling throughout and wishing I was David's neighbor. As any good book should, it left me wanting more. I certainly recommend it for any sci-fi fan who's looking for a quick but challenging read.
