Wells Collecting: Deadpool's Art of War #1-4Bonus: 6 Pages of Art and SketchesDeadpool's Art of War collects a Deadpool miniseries of the same name with a strange premise. Deadpool has travelled to the past to kill Sun Tzu and in the process takes the manuscript for the famous Art of War. Always scheming, Deadpool wants to make money by creating a new edition of the Art of War. In order for the Art of War to be a bestseller, Deadpool needs the world to actually be at war. Deadpool teaches the ancient Chinese maxims to Loki who uses the knowledge to storm Asgard and invade Earth.Writer Peter David uses maxims from the Art of War and juxtaposes them against superhero moments. For instance, Sun Tzu advises "Narrow passages can be strongly garrisoned..." and the panel shows Cyclops guarding the Holland Tunnel against the forces of Asgard. David pens a few humorous scenes in the book. A witty play on "I" and "Aye" that was written with a nod to the classic 'who's on first' had me chuckling, and I appreciated the homage to the scene in Marvel's The Avengers when Loki tangles with the Hulk.Unfortunately, other than a few brief moments, the humor that is the hallmark of a good Deadpool story just didn't work. Deadpool working with the God of Lies to destroy the Earth seems out of character, even for Deadpool. This miniseries is completely out of continuity, so the events in this book do not impact any characters or other titles.Deadpool completists will want to pick up this book. There are some good moments. If you can overlook the many, many non-sequiturs involved with the plot, the book reads well and has solid pacing.

It was about Deadpool starting a war so he could write a book and become a best selling author. My one complaint is that Deadpool seemed out of character at times. If you're looking for a simple short story to read, this book will do.

However this one is a little lacking.***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS***First of all, I am not a fan of this artwork, it's just not a style that I liked. The colors are too dark and it looked more like someone's rough draft for the comic than the actual finished product. The overall story is just Deadpool writing his own version of the Art of War. He convinces Loki to invade Asgard and then Earth with his armies. That does lead to a nice little nod to the movies, Thor says, "Loki has an army!" And Deadpool responds with "We have a Hulk!" It also has the Hulk calling Loki a "puny god!" and slamming him into the ground over and over. Those things got a smile out of me!Deadpool does eventually take up arms against Loki and his forces once someone smashes his laptop that he was writing his book on and then he goes berserk and helps turn the tide against Loki.***END SPOILERS*** ***END SPOILERS*** ***END SPOILERS***All in all, it's just an okay story. I expect more from the merc with a mouth than this. It wasn't even really that funny. In conclusion, any Deadpool fans will probably think this is just okay.
