9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Jacobean Embroidery By Diane Guidice This edition has no illustrations, which is absolutely useless to a student of the art. The only thing I can say in review is that my money was totally wasted.

This book is 102 years old...of COURSE the kindle version has no illustrations By Jane in Milwaukee I don't have a kindle but from I've seen of reviews of old book, they often did not include any illustrations in them. Unfortunately, this version is labeled "Illustrated" but only because that's the original title of the book. I do have several later editions of this book and it's very frustrated to see it get downgraded because at least this kindle version has none of the 27 illustrations. The original 1912 book has 4 "colour" plates. This book is truly great in its detail of the b&w drawings. Every page has a drawing on one side and a detailed discussion of it on the facing page. The font is large and the drawings often have the various sections of the flower or other shape numbered to highlight the stitches and colors used in the original.I have a particularly soft spot for books like this because I love needlework history and studying the reign of Elizabeth I. (See my profile pic.) A couple of the illustrations involve pieces still extant in Hardwick Hall which are among the most famous compilations of historic embroidery in all England, behind only the V&A and other museums. I can appreciate the 10-page Introduction by experts A. F. Morris Hands and Ada Wentworth Fitzwilliam, giants in their field, because I have a bunch of other books that are much more detailed and with color photos.
